Hello everyone. I'm thinking of upgrading my Octagon SX88+ to a UHD model. I know that I won't get UHD on my current TV and that's okay. What can you guys recommend?

Thanks!!! :Y:Y

I've had the SF8008 combo for just over two years, one issue and the supplier replaced without quibble.

It might not be the best looking machine but it's small, uses very little leccy (so doesn't run hot :Y ) and support is still there with relatively regular upgrades.

Thanks for that. I notice there is a couple of these models on the market, one is a mini version and the ones with dual antennas for wifi. Which one have you got exactly?

Would an Octagon SX88 4K UHD box do the job well? Had no bother with my HD version and I only need one input to the dish and motor.

Some people had issues with DiSEqC 1.1 switching, other than that I couldn't find any common issues. The SF8008 can also run the Define image, which is the same as the SX88 operating system, with the bonus of the SF8008's low symbol rate capable tuner.

If you try the remote control of Edision Mio 4K you will probably never agree to use the one of Octagon SF8008 4K.
Buying a cheaper product is not always a good idea.

totaly agree!

Since the o/p is used to Octagon hardware (and pricing) upgrading to the 8008 would be a logical step.

I could recommend any number of 4k receivers, but my personal experience is limited to four.

So, do I take it the Edision is the weapon of choice to view UHD broadcasts?

Honestly, any UHD box will work with those broadcasts. The question is what else you want the box to do...

I had my HD51 for years - it's "UHD" and works just fine. I see no reason to upgrade it.

There are a couple of transmissions that certain 4K receivers have trouble with (audio on one).

Check back through the section for boxes that can cope.

Thanks for the replies! Basically, I only need the box to drive my dish motor and to watch UHD transmissions wherever they are broadcast. It doesn't need wifi as I can connect one of my ethernet cables to it for updates and the like. I'd still like to go for Octagon as I have got very used to it, so maybe a 8008 would be the best one to get? I also like the look of the SX88+ UHD version. Can anyone tell me what box had audio issues with some UHD transmissions please?

noting much useful on UHD for free only demos i noticed picture is dull in UHD

Do you see the same when using the television's internal tuner?

If it's only happening with HDR it could be that your telly can't produce the peak brightness required, so it dulls the rest of the picture in order to produce a higher contrast between bright and dark areas. You could also check if the TV has separate settings for HDR.
