Hi friends ..
Last night I found one of the Samsung 1.5 TB drives in my homebrew 10TB Freenas unraided server was showing signs of failure ..
I have a few 1TB spinpoints in there which have run reliably for over 2 years..
The 1.5TB Samsung is only 6 months old ..most recently added..and already showing problems.
I dont want to use a raid system as I prefer to backup important data on to blank Hard drives ..and put them in a metal safe.
These days its relatively cost effective to do it this way...but I want to replace drives that fail with 'reliable' ones ...not ones that fail after a few months.
The Freenas server is set to spin down the drives when not in use ..so I can't really blame constant access for the failure.
Recommendations for reliable 1/ 1.5 & 2TB drives would be appreciated.

Solid state is probably the way to go

EEEEkkkk!!!!
Sorry CH
Thats certainly not an option ...
They may be good ..
They may be reliable ...but a rough calculation ..works out at £20,000 to fit my server up with solid state drives...
I'll stick to making multiple backups on 1tb drives @£50 a drive..
;)
