recording in smaller files

Hi All,
I have a dm 600PVR... and I want to record each hour in a different file
also and if possible I want to reduce the recording file size to less than the minimum and which is 650 MB

I was wondering if this can be done... even if using any script...
Any hints will be very appreciated
