Hi... Last year I finally got round upgrading to HD+, and bought the appropriate Sky decoder. Its been working fine with the new software ect.

Now for Christmas, I decided I wanted to start using the Recording and playback feature on the box. So I ran a 2nd lead from the LNB into the 2nd input on the back of the box. Then tried to record...

A message popped up on the blue background screen... "Sky playback and recording are not available. Call the broadcaster for Assistance". I am abroad so obviously I dont want to call Sky, so can anyone suggest something how to get this Recording feature working.

Many thanks.

I regret to say the only way is to pay Sky £10 per month for the privilege - and you appear not to be able to!

£10 per month for record feature. If you had it before then facility has been deactivated.

There's no charge for the Sky Plus function, but of course the HD receiver requires an HD subscription and the card must be paired with the box and Plus functionality activated.

Can you provide a little more information please, as regards which card package you have.

I have a full Sports Subscription with Sky, and I have had it for at least 12 years. I recently upgraded to Sky+ HD, and everything is now working as it should be... except for the record function. So is this another 10 pounds add on? Strange because I have the HD subscription. (Thanks for your replies)

In that case you just need to ring sky and ask them to activate the record facility - that bit must have been missed when you upgraded to HD.

OK thanks... What are they like to call these days? I havnt done it in 3 years...What personal info do they now require for example? Also am I calling someone in Scotland, or diverted to India?

At this time of night it would be Calcutta, tomorrow morning you may find a skeleton staff operating in Livingston

No, the £10 is for lapsed Subs but wanting to carry on recording.

Your later info means you can safely ignore me :-crying

As a matter of interest, have you never used the pause live TV function since you installed the HD box?

LOL...NEVER! Am I missing something? I never noticed it tbh!

I just called Sky... The forst time, got through to India and they couldnt do anything, but asked me to call again, and this time I got through to Scotland! Well strange! Anyway, seems like the problem was that I have never used it before, they forgot to add the Record function to the Subscription, just like you said... So she has sent a signal to my box, but no luck as of yet... She said normally it works wthin 10 mins, but could take up to 24 hours.

Fingers crossed for you.

Apologies for the late reply... I work away in the week!
Anyway, after they sent a signal to my box to get the record function activated, I waited the full 24 hours, and I am still getting the same message. So it didnt work. I will call sky again later on to see what else they can do. Sounds strange this...

Now working. Sky had to remove the Recording feature from my account and then added it again... All works fine after that.

Oh well - It took some time, but you got there eventually! :-hny

Cheers I am well happy...! One problem though... I recorded something that needs a Pin number, and I read that its the last 4 digits of your viewing card. However it didnt work... I assume it is on the other card.
Do you know the colour sequences of the Viewing cards over the years? I have found a blue one, but not sure if that was the one before the latest we currently have in the box. Your sdvice is greatly appreciated.

Last four digits of the first viewing card to have been in the box as far as I know m8.
Go register on the 'My Sky' website, there you can change your pin number as well as use many other very useful features like upgrading, viewing billing info etc. Much better than calling Sky and cheaper too!
regards
D.
