Hi all,

I am a complete newbie to Dreambox, I understand computers and networking and many years ago I used to have a D2Mac setup with motorised dish.

I have had sky+ and HD for a few years now and am looking at getting a Dreambox (not sure which one yet).

I have one stupid question:-

Can I record one channel while I watch another? I realise that not all boxes might be able to do this. I have been getting conflicting information from suppliers with some saying nobne can do it others saying only the DM7020 can do it.

I would appreciate any help.

Regards

Yes, there are Dreamboxes with twin tuners, there is one which can handle 4 tuners in HD, best part of a grand though.

The one you mention is not HD.

There is also the VU Duo Twin Tuner with HD

So yes is the answer, maybe you need to tighten down your spec, HD or not ?

Rest assured, the general family will not like the DM recording feature if they have been used to a Sky Box

HD is not a pre requisite but is desirable. Not being able to record like the Sky box is not a problem either.

What I am looking to do is card share between 2 boxes. Being able to record whilst watching another program is an absolute must!!!

I am presuming that series link is not an option on any box?

I was thinking of getting a couple of low cost boxes to play about with.

I notice that you have a clone box, would you recommend them or am I best staying with the official Dream boxes?

Many thanks

If you are wanting to share a Sky UK card be aware Sky will be implementing some new tricks in the near future to stop the practise :D

When is this likely to happen?

Are they looking at stopping the cards working in non Sky boxes?

thanks

They are looking at stopping all forms of "non-standard" usage.

"Sometime soon" is the best we can offer. Its not the sort of info thats likely to leak out before the event.

Thanks for the heads up. I think I will wait until next year before I start spening any money. I will keep an eye on the forums

thanks
