Recording one channel and viewing another on FreeSat problem

Hi,

My folks bought a Humax FOXSAT-HDR after getting a new satellite dish installed in their house.

We were trying last night to record one HD channel and view another but it wouldn't let us, the programmes in question were on at the same time.

It prompted us that we had to cancel a recording but the only one shown in the list was the one we were recording, which to be honest, didn't make a whole heap of sense to me.

The dish has two LNB feeds coming into the box, so i do not see why you can't record and watch at the same time, I have SKY+HD at home and I can do this without issues.
The pause/view part works fine.

Reading some other posts other people are saying if you record one channel the remaining channels available to watch are limited, again I don't really understand why this is.

So you could watch say ITV1 and record BBC1 HD without problems.

The box was installed and setup with both feeds connected.

Any pointers/help/advise would be greatly apprecaited.

Welcome to the forum.

Although two feeds are connected, you may have a fault with one giving the above messages. Two feeds will allow full control to record two programmes and watch a third on the same frequency band.

Try swapping the feeds around to test.

Perform a fresh installation from the setup.

When the box checks the LNB inputs it will tell you whether it thinks you have one or two feeds connected. If it thinks there's only one connected then you have a problem with your feed somewhere. It's possible the box could be faulty but you should check this first.

If it says you have two feeds connected then continue the installation and then you shouldn't have any further problems with recordings.

When an HDR is installed with a single feed (and a loopthrough cable) then the programmes that can be watched or recorded whilst a recording is already in progress is limited. You can only watch/record another programme if it is on a transponder of the same polarity and band (high or low).

In twin feed mode you can record two programmes and view/record a third if it is on the same transponder as one of the two already being recorded. If the two being recorded are already on the same transponder then you have a wider choice for the third!

Sorry to jump in and apologies if the answer is already elsewhere, but I have the same problem with a Foxsat-HDR (about 3 years old). Software version is HPRSFCI 1.00.13 According to the diagnostics page it says
Tuner 1 = 10773,H,22000, 5/6 and Tuner 2 exactly the same. I have no idea what these numbers are telling me, but should they be different? If so what to do I do to adjust it? It remains the same with the antenna feeds reversed. I noticed PaulR is near me in the Vaucluse where it is also showing strength 90% and quality 60%.

Sadly, not at the moment

The first thing you should do is to perform a fresh install as detailed above. This will either tell you it thinks you only have one feed or confirm you have two. Then we'll go from there.

The S/W version is current. 10773,H,22000, 5/6 is just the frequency of the channel you happen to be viewing. Strength and quality are ok.

thanks Paul, the complete reinstall seems to have done the trick, this time it recognised the double antenna feed.
