Recording sat TV on computer

I ran a composite av lead (red, white & yellow phono type ends) from my sat receiver to the pc in order to record onto DVD(the lead works fine transferring satellite from the receiver in the back room to the TV in the front room). Connected to front line-in port (prob for a camcorder) nothing? in the back nothing? although the only composite connections appear to be the former.The software is (Medion) Power Producer. Am I going about this the wrong way and need to run the co-ax (dish lead) out, to the pc's ariel in connection?
 
Try the program Amcap (freeware). It should pick up the device hardware if your card is capable to receive tv. The RCA cable (red, white, yellow) works with a pc tv card, coax works with a tv tuner card in general.

i belive these guys are on the right track for you to view the sat. on your computer. but as your title states you want to record to your burner, right? so do you have sonic dvd?it would really come in handy. see the data stream coming into the pc at real time is to slow to be burned down to a disc. sonic will take the stream and make vts_files then you can burn them on disc. i use this methid to transfer from vhs to dvd. if your still stuck post we'll try to help more.
no you dont want to run coax to your pc straight from the dish, you need the reciever too decode the data stream i dont what system your on and if an emulation is possible so your only choice is to go to the pc from the reciever. sonic should pick up the stream.
