I stopped off at the old East Lancs Cable/NT Hell headend today near my house which is obviously now a VM site but completely unused and took some photos as the dishes that have not been used for some time and they are looking rather unloved. 3.2mtrs is the biggest, I'll bet they cost some dosh to install. For some reason the compund gate was open so I drove in and got some closeups and then was challenged by a VM man, I told him I was an enthusiast who just wanted some decent pictures so we had a bit of a chat and I showed him my snaps and went on my way. Snaps they are as my camera is poorly

The split dish (hydroformed DH ?) in 3.7m would have been about 2 grand in its day. There is also a 1.2 CM dish in picture 5.

A shame as Virgin will have all its channels piped in and those dishes would keep many an enthusiast happy for weeks.

Indeed I mentioned this to the guy I spoke to and he said these old headends are dotted all over the UK and all in the same state of disrepair, I suggested that VM would be better off removing all the dishes and he said the cost of transporting to base would exceed their current worth.

It is indeed a sad state of affairs
 
I suppose with a large company like that, there would be far too much red-tape involved to just stick-em on ebay, buyer dismantles and takes away.
 
Certainly show their size up against the ASC1.2

Sod all the politics ..logistics and red tape ..
It just makes you wanna weep at the wastefulness..
