Repairing gold cards??

OK this may sound sad, but Im trying to save a few pennies - Im skint and acnt afford to spend any more money on the hobby.. Ive got 3 goldcards that dont want to read or write. (IM using an Elvis programmer) Are there any techniques to refresh / repair the goldies or are they just bin fodder.

Errors whilst writing:

1) 2 x "que not empty 2 bytes"
2) "access violation"

If you can use cards that mimic goldies (green fibreglass thingies with two chips on them) Ive found a couple in slots when people have upgraded to official subbies.
