Managed to get the file size down to 2 meg to allow me to post this on Geocities.

It's an example of the retouch work I do. This pub had to have all the modern parts removed. People, traffic lights, aerials, lights, signs, yellow lines.

Remember everything that is behind something removed from the picture has to be created!

See how many things, I have removed, you can spot.

It's a shockwave file and the transition overlays one file onto the other.

That is excellent, superb work. :)

Is that to make it look period? The only thing wich looks out of place is the St Mary's Place sign.
 
PS. There are probably a few here who would be interested in you taking the ex wives/husbands out of wedding photos. :-lmao

Yes, It's a pub in Market Harborough that I just liked (it's my picture).

Decided to remove as much modern kit as possible and then I made it 'sepia' aged it and cut it to an oval.

The final print looked good, I was going to send a copy to the pub (but never did).

Joking about removing relations... I have had to remove and added people to wedding pictures. Also created family pictures for members who live far apart or sadly passed away.

I have also taken old, damaged, pictures and made them new again (it takes a lot of work).

Still, it keeps me out of trouble!

I have done something similar with an old document that was quite badly damaged but I do not have any special software, you use an applemac don't you??

Yes, and Adobe Photoshop - hopefully soon to be an ACE (Adobe Certified Expert) if I can get round to sitting the exam.

Did you clone the road paving where the traffic light shadows were or did you layer mask and lighten?

They are cloned - it's easier than using the levels.

Photoshop has lots of ways to tackle each job, that's why I like training people.

I have yet to meet anyone 'novice' or 'expert' that hasn't taught ME something.

Amazing stuff GB. What a shame we can't remove all the traffic lights and FWD's for real ;)
 
The danger with this kind of retouch work - is that you can end up just making the place look uninviting.

A shopping district without people isn't interesting: like taking a picture of an office carpark on a Sunday. Certainly the pub promo boards without info and the lack of people sitting outside on what looks like a summery day wouldn't make this a great selling shot for the pub or that area.

Personal use is something else. I think it looks great as a retouch; albeit, if the pub is the focus, I would crop the pic just after the white extension (just my choice).

I find this kind of work a true labour of love. Like where to stop? The dead pub boards, the huge modern entrance metalwork, the colour patterning on the pedestrian flagging, iron bollards-which century?, finding some old cobbles to paste in (only the road or all the way in?) - you get the idea.

BTW, I liked the way you removed the speed sign on the far left and added some lane - but kept the PAR38 pub sign uplighter just next to it, LOL.

Just teasing. I would still keep the bald guy in there. He looks like he's from any century.

Probably talking out of my arse, and the intermediate stages were obviously fun to do - but wouldn't it have been a lot easier to lose the detail and colour BEFORE rubbing out the 21st century?

You are an impertinent sod. What's the pont in saying 'wow', when GB invited comments. I'm sorry if I didn't lick ass hard enough - I do the exactly same work (and other design nonsense).

I'll happily paint in some hanging gallows for CH - as long as he's the first to go down. :-rofl2
