John Barry, who wrote a vast pantheon of instantly recognisable musical scores for Film, died yesterday, aged 77.

Many might recall his involvement with the Bond Themes, but his other major credits include Out Of Africa, Dances With Wolves, Ipcress File, Midnight Cowboy, Born Free, Zulu, the Juke Box Jury TV Theme and many, many, many more.

A huge talent who will have touched all our lives, possibly unrecognised, as is the way with unsung heroes.

Yes I listened to a sound byte compilation on the radio today, he was a prolific writer and penned many huge successes
RIP John

A great loss and responsible more than anyone for the "sound" of the Bond films.

Although Monty Norman is credited with the Bond theme it is generally accepted that Barry worked very hard to push it into what is now recognisably Bond.

RIP John.

Certainly a great writer and arranger of so much popular music and themes over many years. I first remembered him as leader of the John Barry Seven back in the late 50's, backing Adam Faith's hit records.

Rest in Peace John.

RIP John, a great modern composer.

Saw Lulu earlier suggesting Mr Barry brought out the Dame Shirley in her.

(He may have been good at his job, but I don't think so)
