Russian beam on 36E

OK, this is a purely theoretical question but has anyone heard of anyone receiving anything from the Russian beam on 36E anywhere in the UK? I have a feeling that if someone has a mammoth enough dish to get that beam, sub-Saharan one will overpower it, especially where frequency reuse is concerned.

From what I read on Russian speaking German forums, the signal drops quickly somewhere in Berlin where you already need a 2m dish to get anything.

I remember many moons ago, Roger Bunney from Wotsat received some sparkly picture on a 1.5m dish in the UK (not sure where) when there was still analogue TV on 36E. This won't have been W4 or W7 satellite at that time, though.

Thoughts?
 
Casnt remember ever seeing any reports of the Russian beam in the UK. Of course it also uses circular polarization which wont help.
 
Does circular polarisation make something harder to receive than linear (assuming you have the right LNB for both)?
 
Few folks in the UK will have circular polarisation lnb's - and if you try to lock a signal using the wrong type of lnb you get massive signal loss.

Its not impossible - I just about managed to lock the 5W analogue channels on an old circular polarity BSB dish a few years ago, but the result wasnt very good at all.
 
Yes, I remember catching some R polarized channels on TDF at 19W(?) many years ago on a linear LNB but changing the polarity on the receiver made no difference.

Thought I'd ask about 36E as there are various rumours that the Platforma package on 9E will be moving to 36E... not good news if this is true.

i did have a try here about a year ago - with the 1.8 channel master , as i have the correct dielectric plate for the matched k/u feedhorn
not a hint of signal though -- :(

I received only all tps of Eutelsat W7 @ 36° East russia beam , but not one of Eutelsat W7 sub-sahara african beam .
 
Asked the same question on the Russian forums and someone managed to catch a glimpse of this elusive Russian beam on a 3.5m dish in London with a linear LNB with a plastic insert in it for circularisation. A "glimpse" means only select transponders and were very weak on lock threshold. I am guessing a 5m dish should do it then!

By the way, in Berlin they can make do with a 1.2m dish for this. Here are some self-made footprints.
