I put up a 1m gibertini dish and technomate 23oo motor about 8 months ago.

I climbed up the ladder to have a look to see rust coming through on the motor bracket thats attached to the pole, and also on the bolts that were cut.

I used a wire brush on the bolts to remove rust then used 3 in 1 white lithium grease spray.
Has anyone used this to treat rust.

The grease will be a temporary protection till the sun bakes it for a bit and the weather takes the rest off, if the bolts are never to be removed again then I would use a good rusty metal primer paint on them and then something to match the mount.

In areas of high humidity or close to the coast line I would replace the bolts with stainless steel bolts, nuts and washers, but be sure to lightly lube them before mounting and tightening as some have a tendency to seize up (cheap ones) and you will then have to cut them off.

I tend to paint affected areas with Kurust, readily available from Halfords and other Motor Factors.

...and the associated website for reference _http://www.hammerite.co.uk/guide/kurust.jsp

Thanks all , will have a look.

But now you will have to de-grease it for the paint to stick.
