rusting v bolts on 1224 motor

My Satellite Setup
1m channel master, jaeger smr1224, Inverto black ultra twin, technomate tm-1500ci, broken receiver vantage x221ci, New additions Skybox F5s and technomate tm-5402 HD arriving soon.

Checking my dish today I noticed the v bolts on the motor are starting to discolour, rust.

When I bought it years back they looked like they were galvanised but clearly aren't.

I remember there is something I can buy from Halfords to paint on to prevent rusting got k rust in my head but not sure it's called that ?

would you recommend a good wire brush first or just apply it to the affected areas ?

Requires no preparation.

That said, I suspect the rusting bolts will still outlast the motor even if untreated.

Do I then put some grease etc over the bolts ?

I hope they do as they are approx 4.5 inch and very thick diameter, so not a size I could buy from most sat shops.
 
I don't think grease would be necessary: the fluid converts any existing rust and then creates a protective layer.

Just bung two or three coats on every year.
 
You can cover the bolts and exposed threads with self amalgamating tape. Obviously you will have to slit it with a very sharp knife when you need to get to the bolts.

The bolts can be changed for grade A2 stainless steel.
 
Waxoyl cavity rust protection ..for cars....avaloble from Halfords....... would work very well too........just spray it on .. ....and won't wash of ....and will protect your bolts for years....
