Samsung Galaxy vs. Google Nexus Android tablets

Having discounted cheap £35 Tablets from Amazon owing to utter crapness, I've decided to push the boat a bit further out and have narrowed my choice of Tablet to just 2.

Argos have the now slightly older model of Google Nexus with 32 GB memory at £130

Currys have the 8" screen Samsung Galaxy 3 with 16 GB memory at £138


Argos offer ends on 15 May, so I need to decide before then (subject to stock)


I'd very much appreciate opinions, experiences and advice.
 
If it were me, I'd probably go for the galaxy tab, they have a good reputation, my sister has one and she is impressed with it.
 
The Nexus 7 runs stock Android 4.4.2 and gets updates directly from Google and has a big community going for it who should keep it updated if you unlock the bootloader long after Google ends updates.

I have one and love it but I prefer the stock Android experience.

Yes, my Sis in Law got one a few days ago just before the latest price drop: She loves it.

I'm erring on the side of the Samsung, but will hold off ordering for a few hours more.
 
Me personally, I'd go for the Samsung, just because it has a better processor + more ram and I like the Samsung brand

It's running Kitkat perfectly fine, it'll update soon as you turn it on, Kitkat is built for lower speced devices, which the Nexus 7 certainty isn't.
 
Yep, as smoggy says, the specific ones as linked are both 4.2 upon purchase.

The Nexus is the previous model, hence being cheap.

The latest Nexus is 4.4, I believe, but not (to me) worth another £100+
 
I'm with remlap on this one.

It will be much easier to keep the Nexus going long after official support ends.

I had a Nexus 7.Now I cannot get it of the wife.'Candy Crush'
So had to buy a Smartphone for pub use.
Also the Micro USB socket is easy to replace when you knacker it.As I did.
 
I feel a toss up coming on (Oooh, Matron).

Thank heavens nobody has thrown any alternatives into the mix!
 
I have a galaxy tab 3, 10inch screen and it's great for the price. I paid about 200 a few weeks back for it on amazon.

I have seen asda are doing the tab 8inch for 135 though if that is enough for you.
 
Sadly no Asda within striking distance, but I've just about decided on the Samsung anyway: Will sleep on it then probably order it for free del. from Currys @£138.

Edit: Asda Direct have it at £139, so Currys it will be.
