Hi All,

my first post, I hope that it's in the correct section.

My question regards setting up the satellite feed on my Samsung UE46D7000. I've only had it a couple of days and I'm still trying to get to grips with all of it's functions.

It has Freesat HD built in and during the initial install there was a specific wizard to set it up. I have a Sky dish with a quad LNB so I'll be running a feed from that sometime soon to get it up and running. So far so good I hope.

During the initial setup there was also a wizard to set up other Satellite feeds. There are options for a whole host of Satellites including Astra 19.2, Hotbird, Sirus,Eurobird etc, etc. My wife is Dutch so it would be nice to be able to recieve Astra 19.2.

Now this is where I'd like some advice. Is it possible to set things up so that I can get Freesat AND Astra 19.2? I understand that I'm likely to need a different dish and LNB but how would they feed into the TV's single input? Can you sum the signals some how or would I need some kind of switch?

I should have mentioned that I live in Berkshire.

Thanks and regards.
Ken.

You need to confirm your Samsung is able to drive a DiSEqC 1.0 system. If not you need to install a second dish and a manual switch.

Which part of Berkshire ?

Channel Hopper,

thanks for your reply. I'm struggling to answer your Diseqc question at the moment (or find a proper tech spec) but I haven't given up looking. I can see how it would make for an elegant soloution.

Is there a low tech soloution?

I live in Bracknell.

Thanks and regards.

Channel Hopper,

having a very frustrating time trying to get to the bottom of ths Diseqc question. I have found the following on a French site though that seems to suggest that it IS supported:
Tuner Satellite : 1 démodulateur SAT (DVB-S / Tuner Numérique pour Réception Satellite)
Compatible SD MPEG2 et HD MPEG4 (flux de 2ème génération, utilisable avec des flux SD et HD)
Compatible DiSEqC (Digital Satellite Equipement Control) version 1.2
Compatible avec la norme DVB-S2
Consultez le dossier sur la TNT par satellite.

Regards.
Ken.

Ah, if it has 1.2 then the TV will also drive a DiSEqC motor, so theoretically with the right gear outside, only one dish is required, which opens up your horizon somewhat.

(Panasonic TV owners reading this are now crying into their DVD recorders.)

What else would you like to get on the TV ?

Hey...Hey!, Nah you are right though, The way I see it is the other sat mode in all Freesat receivers/T.V's is so tacked on & limited their (Freesat) no better than Sky in many respects.

Channel Hopper,

I plugged one of my Sky+ feeds into the TV this morning and set up the Freesat channels. Some additional menu items have now appeared and I can now access some DISEqC settings. There's stuff in there relating to LNB's and motors etc. It looks like the world is my lobster and I'm now thinking that I might expand my horizons and go for some kind of basic motorised system. Can you recommend one?

It would be nice to talk to you, could I give you a call? Do you do installations and if so do you venture out Bracknell way (I make a lovely cup of tea).

Thanks for your help so far.

Hi there,

I got a C-series Samsung 40" LED 3DTV UE40C7705WS-XXE myself.
It supports both DiSEqC 1.0 and 1.2, so I would guess the newer D-series Samsung TVs do as well.

In total my TV gets 16 feeds through an EMP-Centauri S16/1PCP-W3 in DiSEqC 1.2 mode.
Feeds: 39E-36E-28.5E-26E-23.5E-19E-16E-13E-9E-7E-5E-1W-4/5W-12.5W-15W-30W

I will post more info on this and photos then I get back from vacation - last week of July.

Cheers,
ChrizK
