i came across an old sat meter for which i installed a few dishes years back when it
was anolouge,could i still use this meter to set a motorised dish now,its a channel master carrier level detector

Yep, should be fine, these type of meters are fine for fine tuning onto the strongest signal, you will of course have to check on the receiver to confirm alignment to the correct satellite. :)
