My Satellite Setup
dont have a satalite setup up yet,but am loking at buying one asap.
My Location
Portsmouth,England
Hi guys, first post so go gently on me :)

Looking at buying a satalite system but with so much choice,i dont really know where to start?
My budget is around £200 - £250,depending on how much 'play money' the missus will give me.
My location is south coast if that makes any difference?
Id like to watch HD stuff but i understand this may have to come later.
Am intersted in joing a CS scheme so box would need to be linux based right?

Many thanks

What languages do you speak, which satellites are available at your location, and do you think the outdoor equipment will be chimney, wall, or ground mounted ?

If I had that sort of money I would take a punt (and that's what it would be) on something like an Orton 9500 HD (which is a clone of the Opticum 9500 HD). That's because it ticks all the boxes that would be on my list (HD, Blindscan, Linux, PVR capable etc.) and weighs in at just over 150 Euros (if you shop around).
That said, I couldn't comment on the aftermarket support & software that's available, so it will be interesting to hear any comments. To go with that I would get the biggest feasible dish (subject to planning permission etc.). Generally in this game, the more you want the more you pay, but there are some exceptionally capable receivers that are relatively cheap - dependent upon your requirement, however some of the more capable receivers do require more technological knowledge.

Thanks for the quick replies guys.
I only speak english,so foreign channels not really needed,(unless they have english audio)?

been looking at the dreambox 800 hd but didnt know if this was a good box as there are alot of clones about now? And this would also blow most of my budget?

i can put a dish either on the back of my house or on a post in the garden so size shouldnt be an issue?
