I have just recentley tried to install a motorised satellite and have a few questions.

I found thor 1 and got 80% quality on bbc world the highest i could get but when moving to other satellites i can not always get all the availible channels and some of the satellites.
Here is the list of availible satellites and average strength of the satellites

Telecom 8w 80%
nilesat 7w 0%
Atlantic 5w 94%
Amos 4w 0%
thor 0.1w 80%
sirius 4.8e 86%
eutelsat 7e 92%
eutel sat 10e 70%
hotbird 13e 90%
eutel sat 16e 76%
astra 1 19.e 96%
astra 23.5e 84%
badr 26.e 0%
astra 2 28.2e 60%
Anything further east or west just shows as 0%

Im using a 80cm dish and live at Longitude: -2.0876°
Is this the best signal i should expect or do you feel that i should pick up anymore satellites many thanks

Hi,

With your location and dish used, the satellites listed below I beleive will show no signal.

Nilesat 7w 0%
Amos 4w 0%
Badr 26.e 0%

Should get beyond 28e and 8w so possibly a dish set up issue.

Check the following:
pole, should be dead plumb in all directions.
Motor scale on motor

Did you send the dish to reference satellite prior to alignment?

There is a house next to me that may be blocking anyhting further west as it appeas the dish would be slightly blocked by there house. many thanks

Ok West covered but should get 33e, 36e, 39e and 42e for example if you have a clear line of sight.

What dish and motor are you using?

Go to dishpointer.com and put in your postcode, and click all dishes for your location - this will give you a rough guide to what birds you can and cant pick up.

However if you get 0.8w (thor) you should be on the arc and pick up 30w and 42e easy

Also, when you motor the dish to a particular satellite the initial signal reading that you get will probably be for the receiver's default transponder for the particular satellite. It may be worth something checking signal strength/quality of a number of transponders on each satellite.
