A 38-year-old Malaysian woman caused "trouble" on the first day of the New Year when three customs officers detained her for allegedly smuggling 10 parabolic dish sets and accessories from Miri, Sarawak.
The Chinese woman, accompanied by her two children, was caught last Sunday evening about 5.42 pm by officers from the Kuala Belait Customs Preventive and Intelligence Section near the Kuala Belait Rasau toll booth. She was brought in for investigation.
A search ofthe suspect's Malaysian-registered car revealed 60 pieces (10 sets) of China-made parabolic dishes and accessories, an Astro receiver set and six boxes containing 60 kg of chicken wings.
The customs officials believed that she had smuggled in a large quantity of the prohibited items for the purpose of sale, based on public information.
The suspect had concealed the items inside the car boot and below the rear and front passenger seats.
