My Satellite Setup
dvb s2 usb for pc
My Location

just telling my idea, please tell me if i am wrong anywhere.

instead of buying costly satellite meter I prefer given method for capture satellite signal.

1. buy any portable FTA receiver with facility to enter frequency.
2. buy portable black and white tv
3. buy power extension cable for tv and fta receiver.

all cost you around usd $30.

ok now when ever you want to capture satellite signal please follow given steps.

1. find which satellite signal you want to capture from lyngsat.com, dishpointer.com or any other same site. get direction and other details.

2. enter that frequency in to your fta receiver.

3. go to terrace, attach your lnb with receiver, give av out to portable bw tv., select your frequency in fta receiver and start moving dish until you get best signal.

equipment setup will cost you around usd $30.

Yes, I do the same,but I use an 8 inch colour LCD, inconjunction with my meter.

Costs more than $30 though here.

What modern STB's have direct frequency entry? All the boxes I have only have auto, manual or blind scan, but no direct entry.
 
I really hate to say this but.....


The Technomate series do, and no doubt many others.

OK. I wasn't suggesting anyone was wrong, I was just asking. I've got Vantage, Manhattan and Dark boxes and none of those do.

Even my ID digital has direct frequency entry and that is at least 6/7 years old
never even crossed my mind that someone would make an stb without

No, I didn't mean that:)

I always find myself recommending the TMs, it would be nice once in a while if I came accross something that performed better ans was as easy to use.
 
Yes, I have used a Strong FTA box, the one I came accross was a Technomate clone, with seeming identical hardware and User Interface.:-rofl2

I presume by frequency you mean the transponder values eg. 12525 V 27500 3/4 - but isn't there a danger that you might be catching same/similar frequency from another strong satelitte signal?
 
Yes, that will happen. But if you are on the wrong satellite you don't get the channels that were scanned in.

You will only catch a signal from another satellite if the dish isn't aligned right. Most meters try to use a transponder list where the transponder on the sort satellite does not appear on neighbouring satellites... but will cross identify with satellites further along the arc. This is what the TV output is for. For example if I am trying to line up on 1W with my meter (Satcatcher Excel-TV) when I switch to the TV picture I want to see the poker channel. If I don't it must be the wrong satellite.
 
I always used to use an old Fortecstar classic, fantastic receiver for setting up with. Not much use for anything else though :-lmao
