HI I had a Raymarine STV satellite tracker fitted to our boat before heading for the med, worked eally well in UK but I understand does not automaticlly change skew angle. I need to know how to find skew ngle for Denia near Alicante Spanwhere we are now and for other destinations as we move along coast please.

Hi and welcome to the forum. Moved thread to the appropriate section :)

Take a browse at the forum dishpointer tool for a rough idea of skew angle. You'll need to input your location and the required satellite >
Dish Pointer

Having searched the internet to find the equipment you have, I think that any skew alignment should be dealt with automatically. Though I notice it is a prime focus dish so someone may be able to give you a specific answer. Are you looking to receive UK tv from Astra 28°E? If so the dish may be on the small size, as a 60cm is more the norm for the French end of the Med and your dish is only 45cm.

A 2.4m dish would be needed for Astra 2D that part of Spain.

60cm is a mere tiddler.

:-rofl2

You won't get 2D with 60cm let alone 45cm that far down. So no FTA channels from the BBC, ITV, C4 or Five. You might get a few of the non-2D channels but any of any worth are encrypted so you will need a Digibox with a card.

It says in the manual that it has to be adjusted manually. As long as you set it about right for the region you are in for a few close together satellites it should be OK. There is usually quite a bit of tolerance for skew on the stronger sats.

I stand corrected, though considering the equipment costs over £3000 I'd be a trifle miffed at having to adjust the skew manually.

Thanks all for the input, we were sold the equipment on the basis that the 45 disc worked well in trials and even under way,the latter is not something we are bothered about but we have had good reception in UK France and Northern Spain. Again set manufacturer claims works throughout Europe so expecting it to do so, its motor driven so tracks the satellite constantly thought that might be the way they overvame sizie of dish. Anyway found the skew angle for Valencia about 30 miles North of Denia and climbed up took off the dome lid and reset. Tracking Astra 2 and got a good picture but only able to get BBC and sky news so far. Wonder whether there is a secondary problem as received a replacement Sky card for the mini box last year and tried inserting but set rejected so reverted to original card as instructions with new card say if set not been used for a while you have to use old card and leave equipment on for 24 hours, time nearly up so will then try the new card again and see if more channels pop up. Instructions with new card also says you start to lose channels if you do not change to the new card so wonder if this may be having some effect on what I currentl receive, again will find out more when 24 hours up but any other comments much appreciated.
