Hello there,
I have a question about my motor setup. Basically I can get no satellites beyond 30w or 28.2e (Eurobird1 28.5e breaks up badly). Everything else inbetween seems to be okay, but is there any way to determine whether or not the dish elevation needs changed or is it my pole that is not completely vertical. I dont want to chop and change at anything without knowing for sure because I spent long enough getting the thing set up by myself last year!

Thank you :)

Hi, It sounds like your arc is too shallow or too steep.

You can easily check the pole with a spririt level, do that before you do anything.

If the pole is spot on, you can find out what is going on if you go to say 42E and try flexing the dish and try a similarly located sat on the west, to see which way it needs to be adjusted and try a similarly located sat on the west. You would have to compensate for any dish adjustment by adjusting the mtor elevation. Is this set to your latitude/elevation?

Thanks very much for your reply. I will get up the ladder and have a look about when it decides to stop raining or being very windy!.

Is there any specific transponder on 42e that I should go for, that would be particuarly strong?

I can't check my receiver right now, but have a look on Lyngsat and the footprints. I was picking stuff off there with my minidish in the UK.

Thanks, will give it a tweak and see how it goes :).
Also, am I right in thinking the further east/west you go, the less room for manoeveure you have between the different satellites, so everything must be more exactly spot on?

No, the distance apart is based on their orbital positions, the motor turns based on that.

What does happen though, the further east or west you go, if your arc is out, the worse it will get. Draw two arcs of different steepness overlaid, and you will see what I mean.

The dish elevation just needed adjusted a bit thankfully. Had to tilt the dish slightly downwards, all going fine now and no breakups in the rain also :)
