Anyone any experience of this?

_http://satlinkmeters.co.uk/satlink/ws-6932.htm

Seems to offer an awful lot for the money (about £214 delivered, less if bought from outside the UK) - specifically DVB-S2, DiSEqC and a spectrum analyser.

What I can seem to get a grip on, having read the small amount of review-type comments for other Satlink meters, is whether they're cheap/unreliable stuff to be avoided or cheap/"OK for the money" products worthy of thinking about...

I have the WS6906 which would be the SD version of this and to be honest it is basically a glorified portable STB.You can see nothing on the screen when the sun is shining. It has a cheap plastic feel about it and any sort of firmware updating is fraught with danger as the unit has a USB input yet you can only update via an RS232 port on your computer. If you like gadgets or toys by all means buy it but remember you get what you pay for.

Thanks,

How useful would you say your WS6906 really is in use?
Does it basically work as advertised bar the build quality/screen issues?
Do Satlink release firmware updates to address issues/what's their customer support like?

I've most recently had a Sathhero SH500G - the build quality of that was truly terrible for the £250 it cost. In the end that went back due to it failing to lock DVB-S2 frequencies, but it did fit the bill of attempting to support DVB-S2 and DiSEqC.

The thing that frustrates me about the meter market is that there seems to be very little in the "middle" ground - either there are very cheap meters stuffed with features but failing on quality/usability, or vastly higher priced meters that are mostly out of the reach of the amateur. Maybe there just isn't so much of a market in the middle...

The latest firmware is awful, i have my own software dump on this pc. I wiped the software and put the satellites in manually with the strongest transponders and its a useful bit of kit. I think that 6932 has a bit more going on it.

I hear you but for something I bought for £320 two years ago they are being knocked out for £68 brand new on Satlink site.Gimmicks I reckon but its purely my own thoughts on my experience.Amazed nobody has come up with an accessory for the iPhone or The Samsung Galaxy to address the Satellite Meter market.Currently use the free app Dish Align and I have to say if an interface was designed between the phone and the LNB I reckon it would make a very handy tool.

In the next week ill try and post me satlink "bin" file on here to make it available to download for 6906 users. Just adding the last few satellites.

From what I understood from the forums the firmware for WS-6932 is quite buggy:
- maximum quality level indication you can get is 86% and no more
- CN (carrier/noise or signal noise) is max 13.0 dB and does not go higher.

Watch videos on Utube from satlink germany for these product to see the bugs.

Can't be really useful for fine-tuning the dish or precise comparisons of different LNBs. :(

I have the 6906 and an FS1. I hook up the FS1 to the LNB and the 6906 to the FS1. Thus I can tune the dish with the FS1 while getting confirmation of the picture on the WS6906.

Like you I´d love to be able to find a reasonably priced meter (up to 200 pounds) with NIT, so I can sweep and identify the satelite without having to previously enter the desired transponder.

In the meantime using the two together works well.

Comparing the two, do you find FS1 more stable?

I am not sure what you mean by stable.
The FS1 has a good solid feel about it. A high quality screen. Good volume. It is easy to program. It is far more generally versatile than the Satlink.

If the FS1 had NIT and a screen to view the program it would be, for me, the ideal meter. But then it would be far too expensive.

There is also a lot of support, videos and information on the FS1 which inspires confidence.
As has been mentioned the Satlink updates via a RS232, which for me at least has meant I have not been able to update it like Paul mentions above.
I hope this helps.

The ws6906 is sensitive and you will find weak satellites with it, it just isnt so advanced and also not DVB S2 .

Yes , i have all free to air channels stored in it against each satellite. When i pick up a satellite i can look at the channels straight away to realise if i'm on the correct satellite. Very quick.

Cant answer that as the ws6906 isnt dvb s2 and there isnt a spectrum analyzer. My battery tends to last 4 hrs in constant use on a full charge.
