I purchased the Satlink WS6906 on Monday and I must say it is an interesting piece of equipment.Used basically its like a mini STB but once you get into the workings it a powerful tool.I will experiment with it a bit more but it is definitely the business for a motorised setup.Does anyone else own one and what are your experiences with it.I can't find a web site for the manufacturer and the firmware is upgradeable via USB link so I would like to be able to do this if anyone can help.

Will do as soon as I get a chance. It seems from what I am reading here it is being classed as a cheapo Chinese meter.I don't think the "Pros" on this site rate it too highly.

Yes, it probably isn't a meter I'd buy, but then for someone on a tight budget, or a hobbyist, it will serve a useful purpose.

What meter would you buy.I've looked at a lot of reviews of different meters and there are as many positive as negative comments on each one.I know the comment "the dearest can work out the cheapest" but again it is only by people's experiences can we determine what might be best for us.I must admit I cannot find the Satlink website which makes me wonder about the "ongoing" software updates. What type of pictures would you like to see.Stills may not show the full picture.

My meters are in my profile, I've had several and by far the best all rounder is my Televes H45 Compact HD, but not everyone would want to pay that sort of money for a meter. My Satlook NIT is several years old now, but still does an excellent job for sat hunting, but I also require a high quality Terrestrial meter, hence the Televes.

I have also one but I use it for a Multytenne (4/1) or to quickly adjust individual Lnb's of my WaveFrontier.
Did you find the web site of the manufacturer (Firmware/PC software) ?

I did but to be honest looking at the instructions for upgrading I reckon you could "brick" the unit trying to flash the firmware.

I found some instructions although they are for a WS6902.

_www.satlinkmeters.com/sites/service/index.html

The "Anleitung Firmwareupdate + Editor" is in english.
I guess it shows what we can expect for the WS6906.
Unfortunatly the "USB software upgrade cable included" was not included in the package and trying to connect using a bought serial-USB cable and using the program for the WS6902 failed.

Hi folks, I am new to this forum. I think you may be able to source your manuals and support software from the manufacturer at _http://www.sat-link.co.uk/store/Sat-Link_Software_Support.html. I have tried to download support software for my WS6902 which is listed as free download but at the "checkout" they require 10 pounds fro postage so I have not proceeded with that one. I was able to find and download for free, a PDF of the manual for mine although it is the same as the scant manual supplied with the equipment. It is still a usefull bit of kit to have. Hope this is of help to you.

I also wanted to buy a hobbyist meter but got more confused as I read the various reviews/comments here and there. I wanted to have the spectrum analyzer option in a "cheap" meter. So I look to to the TRIMAX. Some tells the SA is a gimmick on this meter and is not real time. I recently saw an ad for SM-3500 telling it's real time. Then I came across the WS 6902 and WS 6912. I see that satlink and trimax appears to be brothers or cousins. They look so similar. I got more confused.
I was thinking that even if I cannot lock on dvb-s2 at least I can get the spectrum.....

I already have an FS1 but I'm tempted to get one of these purely for the STB facility. It will be much easier then trying to explain to a customer that there is absolutely nothing wrong with their dish but their sly box has blown

I also have an FS1 which i got off the site sponsor. Still not sure if i like it in all honesty.

Having been used to setting a dish up using a spectrum its taking a bit of getting used to. I still don't think its as good as my older Satlook Micro, but it does the job, if not a bit more slowly than the other meters i own.

I've done a few motorised dishes with it, but i have to admit it took a bit longer to setup than it would have with the Satlook.

These 2 meters not related at all, Satlink are cheap copies of Trimax meters.
If your on a budget and are prepared to throw away a meter if it breaks, then Satlink ok for the job.
Trimax use better quality components than Satlink hence they cost more but they are worth the extra money.
We have sold a good number of Trimax meters in the past few months and not 1 failure. Last year we sold over 100 pcs of Satlinks and we had serious problems with the high failure rate of these meters.

I bought the Sat link 6908, after doing tests on a twin LNB with a Motorised system that was ok. I found it to be crap. Slow to respond, even downloaded the programs took too long. Sent it back and bought FS1 which I am very pleased with. The 6908 seems impressive until you compare it with meters around that price.

Just taken a chance and ordered one of these from Amazon, and then downloaded/printed a lot of stuff from here. Followed the link to the sat-link.co.uk store but the URL has changed slightly = now -http://www.sat-link.co.uk/store/SatLink-WS6906-Software-Download.html, and it now costs £5+VAT, but that's V1.0 and so I assume it is only the original s/w as supplied on the unit when bought.

The manual is here -http://sat-link.co.uk/store/WS-6906_manual.pdf

Interesting follow-on on the Satlink.de website: Satlink WS-6906 DVB-S | SATLINK "The sale was stopped because of a lack of future updates!"

Confirms a similar statement ("OUT OF STOCK or ON ORDER" on Satlink.co.uk site

So it looks like this unit is obsolescent/obsolete, and the only updates to had are those have/will be done by the buyers/users.
