I'm about to buy a meter, cant make my mind up between satlook lite or the First Strike. Theres not much between them, the Fstrike screen seems very busy, but support is good i also like the fact it can be powered from a receiver. The Satlook has a lot clearer screen. nit and less buttons although the transponders have to be udated via a pc, and a queston mark over the support. Has anybody any experience of using the satlook ? there seems to be a lot of good feedback about the Fstrike, not much about the satlook.

For me, it'll be the Satlook lite.

I have just recently bought an FS1 having never heard of the Satlook Lite. Having now read the characteristics of the later I now think that I would have been better off buying the Satlook and may even buy it anyway. I am specifically torn towards its "Easy Find" function.
The FS1 is robust and works well but lacks that feature.
Should you get it, I would be grateful for a review.

Could you say what draws you towards the Satlook?

I'm still cogitating updating the satlook is my only concern has any one any experience of this? Juan69 if you do not put lat and long into the firststrike can you still use it? my thought is to make the screen less busy by not having the azimuth screen etc populated. Thanks.

I have done lots of research on other meters read loads of threads looked at ber and mer and how useful spectrum is to have. Ive always used a receiver and tv to align my dishes, the first strike was a good price and has some useful features it got me looking around. the satlook lite seemed to fit the bill but i found it had limited tps in its list and had to be revised via a computer i want to use it in the uk and spain so needed a selection of tps. the satlook micro seems to be the business but to my untrained eye complicated. In the end ive decided on the horizon hdsm usb plus good tp lists availible, it looks easy to use and has a spectrum for me to grow into. I had a budget of £200 ive had to stretch to £300 now. big jump!! just got to convince mrs pm and myself that it will be worth it.

I have not used it without typing in the latitude and longitude. I suspect you would still be able to use it because it would give the signal strength when it found the selected transponder.
Which model HDS have you gone for?. I have read that it doesn´´t work on the new Eutelsat.

Thanks for your reply, the favourite at the moment is the horizon hdsm usb plus dvd-s. I'm over to alicante on monday so have put the purchase on hold until i get back. I was buying it for this trip over probally in a bit of a rush ! I want to buy something that is future proofed to a point , good support, ease of use,. The flexibity to add a transponder on site and a spectrum to play with. There dosent seem to be any midpriced meters about it goes from around £150-£200 then jumps to £300+.

Five hundred pounds seems a lot of money for a once in a while home instalation and tweeking.
I like the features including LNB Pass / Fail test function, LNB short circuit protection and the Satellite cable integrity test.
But a feature I would look for the price would be the facility to identify the actual satelite during the search process.

To be honest i'm more than happy with my FS1 :D

its ideal when your hanging off a ladder at height, and it bounces well, the last drop was about 20ft onto concrete and it came out of it none the worse for its fall other than a few scratches to its rubber cover.

Its a lot less cumbersome than my Rover DM16 is so to be honest it does get a lot more use if its just a single dish or motorised system. I only tend to us the DM16 if its a Communal setup or an aerial setup.

Horizon not my cup of tea. I always want a meter that I can edit in the field without a PC. Satlook would be my choice. I got a Digi Air Pro which is the terrestrial version. And I've got a Satlook Color HD. I really like the Emitor meters. Satelliteman has the Micro II and really likes it.

Also got the smaller Emitor DigiAir dB (terrestrial), happy with the Emitor meters.
Not particularly impressed with the Horizon meters either; seen most of the models out there.

udate : i finally managed to purchase a used horizon hdsm usb plus in excellent condition for less than £200, ive had a little play and it seems very easy to use, also ive upgraded the software from the horizon site and loaded the latest uk list. this latest model allows you to manually add a frequency on site over whats in the list which makes it a bit more flexible than the previous models. its also got a spectrum although not had time to investigate yet. next month i want to use it in spain does any one know if the uk list will be ok to use or will i need to load the spain one or make up a custom list ? hopefully someone has experience of this.

Take a look at KingofSat. It is always my first reference point. Reception of course is varied throughout Spain, and of course also depends on the size of the dish and location.

Hi
I know some people don't like the Horizon meters but I have used them for years and been very happy with them.
Your best bet is to install from the custom list and load the individual transponders for Astra 2 and then also add at least 5 custom ones from the list. These can then be programmed into the meter on site without the need of a computer.
I would also add some for 26E, 23.5,19.2, and 13 as when you see movement on the scale when aligning the dish you can check to see which satellite you have found and then know if you need to move more east or west etc. I would also stick 7 west on as you will be able to get it in mainland Spain.

Good luck

Might be worth splitting this off and giving it a new title more appropriate for the Horizon Meter - helping others to find it on a search.
Cheers

I am on 28E here in Murcia. You should be getting all including Channel 5, which I don´t get.

In feb. when i was there last, channel five was no problem. the dish has a gi branding and flexes quite a lot in the wind which causes a few problems if nothing changes signal wise in the future i will replace it with a better quality dish.

Sounds like it needs a better mount, but, they are a bit flimsy. GI branded 120 x 110cm dish is a Famaval LH110.
