With Self Searching Dishes do they automatically look for a pre-programmed channel and lock on to it once it has found it or does each satellite broadcast an ID code of some sort like FM RDS?

If each satellite does broadcast an ID code, what is it and how can you find it!? - otherwise what IS the secret behind self searching satellite dishes - and do they tilt and shift automatically to achieve the best signal strength?
 
A dish that can aim to selected sat by itself. Generally used in RV, marine, rapid tv uplink stations.

As I remember from leaflet, it uses GPS data+NIT scan.
