Selfsat/ flat dish help please! driving me mad

hi there,

if anyone could help me with this it would be great!

I live in the south of France. Selfsat dish is set up on the balcony of my flat with no obstruction. The digibox (Panasonic DSB40) is showing 100% signal strength and 90% signal quality only varying a minute amount during poor weather conditions. Correctly pointed if Im not mistaken as box showing network id 0002 and transport stream 07d4.

HOWEVER! cannot get bbc channels and various channels either not working at all or at varyiong times and those that do work have signal break up, lagging and freeze. I have tried the box elsewhere and it works fine so do not think that it is the box. I have re-fixed the f connectors without any amelioration of the problem.

As I havent been able to find much about these dishes It would be great to hear from anyone knowing anything about them!!

I just cant understand why this isnt working with the signal I am receiving!!
 
You need a bigger dish. Those small cubes are just too small to give you Astra 2D channels (BBC ITV etc) in the south of France.

Remember there are 4 satellites with 8 different transmission coverage areas. Astra 2D has the most restricted coverage area, basically covering the UK and only puts a strong signal into parts of northern France western Germany and the Benelux countries

so depite the excellent signal rating showing on the signal test bit of the digibox Im not actually receiving a good signal? or only for certain channels? if I have to take the selfsat box back which size dish should I get?

Yes, you may have excellent signal quality, BUT the indicator is only for a single transponder, you are obviously getting very poor or no quality on the transponders that carry the channels you're having problems with.

I think you can check the quality of other transponders on a Sky box, but I have not messed with one for a while so a software update may have taken that facility away.
 
i'll try to see if I an check the transponders but looks like Im gonna have to get another dish, what would you reckon on minimum size dish?
 
For 2d reception I believe South France 80cm-1m although local knowledge is always best.

Depending whereabouts in the south of France you are you will need an 80cm to 1m dish for reliable reception of the Beeb, ITV and other channels on 2D.

You need to tell us the nearest big town and/or départment.

That is good, but not too surprising, given the Footprint for the slightly tricky Astra 2D - but a couple of hundred miles further South and it all begins to change ................. rapidly!

BTW, which Paris Arrondissement is "Swansea" :p

Yes, a standard minidish works in Paris, have installed a couple in the suburbs, La Defense and Rocquencourt, but as Tivú says, 200 miles can make a big difference in reception when on the edge of a satellite footprint and the South of France is a different proposition altogether.:)
