Is there such a device which allows the user to input raw disqec commands in hex ..and send them via the cable..
Such as a meter that could be placed in the cable/feed.
I do know there was a stb made by Kathrein ..that could do this ..but no idea which one ..
Certainly it can be done from a PC via a pci card and software...but I'd like to be able to achieve this without a PC.
I don't know if any other set top boxes can do this ??
Better still ..I'd like a device that also reads and interprets diseqc commands ..
So do such devices exist in the public domain ..and at what cost..

How good are you at writing hardware code - VHDL or assembler? Could be easily enough achieved with that.

The 'unit' that allows raw diseqc made by Kathrein is not a receiver at all ..but in fact a desk top analyser ..model MSK 33.
I suspect these are no longer made ..but would be pricey anyways.

Eutelsat used to provide the emulators and software tools to manufacturers.

I'm certain that anyone used to PIC programming could make something up 'in a flash'.

I have found something that if customiseable (ie the disqec control) ' words' needed (non standard ..) can be written into the pic ..then this mini project would suit my needs ..at least regarding the send/control aspect ..
Analysis is another story ..and not one I'm persuing so keenly..

I've used the contact email and hope the project s designer gets back to me..
fingers crossed..
why re-invent the wheel ...?

..Got a reply this morning from Juras ..
Most helpful and may be the way to ..

Hi Evan,
unfortunately there is no such graphical editor and all my DiSEqC-projects have DiSEqC-messages filled during programming of C-code. But there is one exception - so called Externally controlled DiSEqC-Generator. It's capable generating up to 8 any(!) DiSEqC-messages (up to 4 in simplified version) which are stored by a customer in the EEPROM of the MCU. That means that you can edit all the messages by a hex editor in relatively simple way. For example the messages you need (E2 03 00 and E2 02 00) may be coded using the following string:
0x03,0xE2,0x03,0x00,0x??,0x??,0x??,0x??
0x03,0xE2,0x02,0x00,0x??,0x??,0x??,0x?? (where ?? means any data)
And this data should be stored in the internal tiny13's EEPROM using any suitable programmator. A message will be generated after a short negative strobe at the ~TX pin while code combination on A0..A2 will determine number of message previously stored in the EEPROM. All the neccesary parts may be easily added to the basic circuit of the generator (http://www.juras-projects.org/eng/projects.php#ecdiseqcgen_smp).
Sure I can change any of my firmware, but first take a look at the generator, perhaps it's suitable. If yes, I can provide further help, only thing I need is a well and fully described task.
P.S. Never sell my projects due to several reasons.
Best regards, Juras.

start with Juras's code, and:
-upgrade for a bigger ATmega
-implement a display and keyboard (16x2char LCD and 4 buttons(up, down,enter, back))
-implement simple menu system, and message editor
-replace the eeprom fetching routine for the composed string in RAM(the one you composed with the keys)
-send

if you can do this, receiving messages and displaying them is trivial
