..5 TV and one radio ...
pix are hard to get and infrequent lock here ..but I managed some..
;)
Signal increased to 8.1db and now a solid lock atm

Make that 4 TV and one 'Barker Channel' plus 1 radio
Sweet FM

I've been trying for that mux for a couple of days VS, max I can get is 6.5dB, no lock. Definitely a weak carrier. I'll have to try with the Inverto feedhorn, got the FD9000 on ATM. No prob with the other channels.

At first I thought my XMW had blown it on Saturday - this chump left it out without the cap on during a downpour (forgot to bring it in overnight), and it didn't work at all until I dried it out with a hot air fan :-doh

If it makes you feel any better I had a similar event some months ago ...water ingress due to a defect in the casting ..
I dabbed its internals with cotton buds ..warm air dried and resealed with silicon grease ..
It's been out in all weathers ever since without issue.
hope you lock it soon..
I've sent details to Flysat ...not sure I'll get there first though.
;)

Good idea VS. I had noticed Elchromo had posted about it over at dxsat, so knew it was up. If I had given it some thought, I should have asked you to try for it. Sorry.

Yes, panic with the XMW. I remember your problem with it. I removed the covers both sides (24 screws, three different sizes) to see inside - dry thankfully. I think it was the entrance to the dipole that had got damp. Phew!

Pretty solid here atm Llew
8.2 >8.4 db (F15) and locked more than unlocked though still getting strong gusts of wind from the west occasionally..
So that would explain the dropout.

Slight OT, Evan, sorry but are all Ka-band transponders DVB-S2/8PSK (i.e. no DVB-S/QPSK)? Seems like a very healthy signal on most transponders that would easily lock in DVB-S/QPSK...

Most of them are CJ ..
very narrow width channels and mostly 8PSK..
It can make for very tricky locking by F15 or TBS card ..and often missed in a blind scan

Up from 6.5dB to 7.6dB with a Triax feedhorn, but still no lock :(
All other TP's up 2dB too. I shall keep trying though; a bit overcast now, might come through in clearer conditions.

8.1 (8db ) minimum lock level requirement I think Llew.
keep trying ..you're almost there.

Is this a technical requirement due to the nature of high frequencies of the Ka-band ... or something else?
I don't think it -has- to be this way ..but as you know from looking at 17E Cband ..the African channel providers _tend_ to like low bit rate 8psk..

Not as far as I know. There's higher SRs on 19E, e.g. 15000SR (Penthouse) on 19E 18366V.

Which receiver would you recommend for Ka band?

Which receiver would you recommend for Ka band?
Any receiver will do ...
It's the lnbs that cost big money ..
As receivers go ...a high gain SD/HD stb like the F15 is more than adequate ..
but for Ka band D ...which this thread is discussing ..
£400 minimum ..and the XMW is more expensive still

Getting there. No video - yet.

I too had dificulty getting video using the TBS card ..
Scan it with your F15 ..
It will give you more chance of images ..

8db on the TBS card for images ..but slightly less needed on the F15

F15 comes to the rescue. Poor quality snap, a transfer to my WinTV card.

Got 2 F15. Both new.

Will the new LNB do both Ku and Ka bands?
