Ses Want Frequency Of Eutelsat

Interesting the FEC has changed. If Sky can prove, via testing, that 3/4 works adequately on the SES allocations rather than 2/3 it will add a fair bit of netto bandwidth to the transponders themselves. Also, the other existing EB1 transponders at 27500 2/3 going to 3/4 will do likewise too. It will potentially reduce rain-fade margins in weaker reception areas around Europe too though.

those where just relative measurements and comparisons taken with a DM800, I did not mentioned but the antenna was a Tecatel 1.20 offset.
If you are using an aerial big enough to max-out the tuner, both beams will show the same power, i.e. SNR 100%.

Those that have been duplicated are from the S1 beam which we don't get in the Canaries without a 3M+ dish anyway. So at the moment making no impact here yet.
But on the Superbeam (Lyngsat's name not mine) there are an awful lot of free channels that we do get that many people will miss.
True movies, CBS reality, tiny pop, music channels etc
Not the best TV channels but they are free
Yes, but longer term it is better because all these channels are likely to end up on pan-European beam of one of the new Astra birds.

12130v also 11954h receive from astra 2a
strong with 4.5m

Remind me folks, what was on 11954H and 12130V prior to them being ceased. Was 12130V the second BBC RB transponder that was closed back in Sept 2011 when the red button service was cut down to 4 or 5 streams? There's still 12402V (ex ITV widebeam TP) and 12422H (ex C5 widebeam TP) that could also be utilised. How many Sky transponders are on EB1?

Solly, what's the FEC on these two frequencies? 2/3 or 3/4?

Cheers for clarifying Timo and Huevos, from my guesswork I make that there's another three potential TP's which can be utilised, also some EB1 Txp's could be shifted to 2F's 'C' band if that helped make the transition a bit easier for the uplink providers, Sky, Freesat and SES?

Looks like 12643V is being cleared as various channels are popping up on other transponders. Some in the Eutelsat "safe" area and some on other Eutelsat transponders.

This bit of the report about the SES legal win is interesting

The agreement gave SES the right to use 500 MHz of bandwidth which SES said it would use for DTH satellite television services in the UK and Ireland and for other services inside and outside of Europe.
Could this indicate all these frequencies moved to the UK spotbeam with the 2E Middle East beam on these frequencies?

Possibly, but I took it to mean that channels could use the capacity to broadcast to Europe like they do now with Eutelsat if they wished. And we know SES plan to offer services to the Middle East anyway with their own beam. The way Astra 2E and 2F and to some extent 1N are pretty sharply focused on the western side of Europe (compared to the older satellites) I think they have already taken into consideration the possibility of sharing ME and PE footprints.

Edited to add an image I made a while ago combining 2F's PE beam and 2E's ME beam to show how conveniently far apart they are:

It's the "inside and outside of Europe" bit that is of interest. Maybe, at least some, of the TP's will go spotbeam as there must be a possible demand by a few broadcasters for this, certainly some of those that are still FTV (like Sony TV and Sony Movies) and can save money on encryption costs.

the questen is if switch from me beam to uk beam or only fix beam not be change
any know are meny tp will be me beam ?

Hi

The final three 'dormant' frequencies 12402V, 12422H and 12441V have been activated.

They are currently 27500 2/3, and like 11954H and 12129V they are not transmitting any channels at the moment.

(I can't help but wonder; if 12402V is going to be used, will this mean that 10994H will finally get the correct stream ID? Ever since ITV moved its channels from 12402 to 10994, the latter has retained the former's stream ID - 07f4 (2036). The correct one should be 080b (2059). Maybe not very important in the grand scheme of things, but it has always bothered me.)

Regards,
Bengt
