Setting elevation with no useable scale

I'm beginning to realise that the box thinks everything it's receiving is from Astra, whether it is or not, because their beams are so close together and it only has Astra details in its memory.

Yes, precisely, although to get the all the channels, it must have transponder details for all satellites at that nominal orbital position in it's memory.

Mine for instance, just calls it Astra2/Eurobird1, plus it attaches the orbital position to it, which is useful.

You can call the satellite what you like, it won't stop it picking up the channels, as long as it has all the tranponders.

Yes. And it must be D as well, though there's no mention of that on the screen.

Another no doubt dumb question: the BBC page at _http://www.bbc.co.uk/reception/info/sat_frequencies.shtml BBC Reception says "Other free channels are also available, but some - such as Channel 4 and Five - are encrypted and require Freesat or a Sky set-top box and viewing card." I have neither kind of box and no cards, but I get both 4 and 5. Is this a stealth Freesat box? As I say, there's no mention of Freesat anywhere on the kit or the paperwork.

By the way, this looks like the best £50 I ever spent. The picture quality is much better than I get from Freeview or analogue, and I get more channels. Should've done it years ago.

I received a warning about the live link to the BBC I unthinkingly put in that post. My apologies, and I won't do it again, but I really should point out that the BBC link is harmless, whereas the S k y link in the same post now -- WHICH I DID NOT PUT THERE (and it's not in the BBC text I quoted the piece from either) -- is much worse.

I don't like Murdoch, and I would certainly not intentionally post a link to anything of his.

Live links are not permitted. However the forum Admin have setup certain words which auto convert to links.
Eg sky ebay argos screwfix ,maybe more. These are pay per click and help to fund the forum.

With that wording for ASTRA 2.. it veryfies it's the same satellite receiver with a different badge and that one satellite should have all 28.2e & 28.5e transponders together.
