Hi all,

I want to set up a static ip address, I have a BT Home Hub Ive registered an address at Dynamic but reading on Google it would seem that you cant set a static IP address on the BT Home Hub, first anyone know if this is right and if so could I then buy a Netgear router to replace my BT Hub and set it up the static address in the Netgear hub, thanks all.

Well in real terms you don't set up a static ip address, you either have one or not, but you set up dynamic DNS tracking. The Netgear makes it easy, you simply add the details of your dyndns.org account, but I'm sure the home hub can do it as well.

Can you give us some screen captures of the menus?

Thanks for the reply, Ive printed my gateway address and registered at dynamic dns, I work in an office and we have IT people there so im going to take this information in, in the morning and see what they can do. I phoned BT tonight and asked them could I set up a static IP address and they said no but I could pay them for one. I just logged into the bt home hub router went to advanced and there is an option in there for dyndns but I dont really want to mess about with it, I will ask the IT people. If I dont get any joy will post some screen shots on here, dont really want to buy a new router, thanks for the reply anyway.

If you have a setting for dyndns, then that's all you need, plus to set up port forwarding to your dreambox.

Thanks for the info think im getting there slowly, I put my gateway address into the browser and went into advanced settings in my BT home hub after entering the passwords then clicked on add games or applications dont know if that was right, I can see in there I can add application guess if im right on this I can add my dreambox there so I can access it from my Ipad while away from my home is this right. I clicked on Dynamic dns on the left of the page and added my information the host name I made and passwords and clicked apply the page went blank for about 30 seconds then came back it did not say anything that it had been ok but now when I enter the dynamic address into my browser it now logs straight into my BT Home Hub settings page so I take it i need to get this to login to the dreambox instead of the BT Home Hub page I guess this is where the port forwarding comes in is that correct. So do I create an application called dreambox and some how forward the ports so it allows to go through the firewall, what ports do I put in and also how do you get the dynds address i created to pick up the dreambox instead of BT Home Hub Settings page thanks all.
