Advice Needed setting up dish angle help

hi
first time poster so hi to you all.

I,m setting up a motorised dish. it,s a technomate h-h motor tm-2600 m2
My postcode is England wv5 Wolverhampton so my latitude should be 51
my installation notes say as follows
----------------
1. setting elevation angle of the motor.
adjust the motor elevation angle via the elevation/latitude scale on the side of the motor.
theres a picture with a arrow pointing at 51 degrees.
2. setting declination angle on the dish.
according to the latitude of your location ,find the declination angle by the angle table provided.
set the declination angle on the dish .the reading on the dish scale should be 30 DECLINATION ANGLE
theres a picture with the angle pointing at 30.

so do I go with 30 on the dish and 51 on the motor or do I look in the table where it says the declination angle for 51 lat is 7.4 degrees for the dish which is a long way from 30 degrees.

any advice would be great cheers

Guess you're sorted now but the motor latitude scale should show 51 and therefore the motor elevation scale should show 39.The elevation scale on the dish should be 30 minus declination angle for your latitude(7.4) = 22.6 .That's how it works on mine.Cheers

I usually lock the motor at required elevation (51 latitude - make sure you're using the right scale), put the dish at around 22 degrees and adjust the declination until I get the best signal on my due south satellite (Thor 0.8W for you).

ok
this is really embarrassing but I,m stuck on astra and need to change to thor 1w and simply cannot find out how to swop sats.read the book twice. receiver is a amiko hd8150. someone give me a clue please. I can find the sat on the scvreen but cannot turn onto it .keeps reverting to astra.

Don't have an Amico but I'm sure someone does on this site.You need to make sure the receiver is setup for motorized mode and that you have a good channel list covering all the satellites.Motorized setting should be for USALS which will send the dish to the correct position using your longitude and latitude.Here's a setup procedure that may help:

1 The pole the motor is to be mounted on has to be perfectly vertical.You'll need a very good spirit level for this.
2 Hopefully you don't have any houses or trees too close to you,in the southern sky.
3 Put the motor on the pole at a height that suits your dish pointing due south.Tighten the bolts enough so that the motor can't move.This adjustment will be fine tuned later
4 Set the latitude scale on the motor to match your location(can be found with Satellite Finder / Dish Alignment Calculator with Google Maps | DishPointer.com )This adjustment won't be moved again.
5 With the motor connected to receiver make sure it's at the zero point(should be possible from the Motorized Setting menu)
6 Mount the dish on the motor arm so that the seam or zero line of the motor arm is in line with the centre of the dish.You can measure from either side of the dish to get this accurate.Tighten up the securing bolts well,this won't be moved again.
7 Set the angle scale on the dish to the "dish bracket angle",found in the motor installation manual,for your latitude.This will be fine tuned later
8 Make sure the lnb is at it's zero position ie with the cable coming down at 6 O'clock
9 With everything connected go to the Motorized setting menu of the receiver and select USALS for the DISEqC Motor setting and enter your longitude and latitude..
10 Then select a satellite that is the most southerly to you and a valid transponder(check with kingofsat).Then you need to do a Go To command to move the dish.
11 Adjust the dish with very small movements,until you get a signal,by the moving the motor assembly on the pole left or right.If there's no signal increase the dish elevation slightly using the angle scale on the dish then try the horizontal movement again.If still no good then move the dish down past the previous position and try again.When you have a signal tighten up all the bolts evenly and check by flexing the dish gently up/down,left/right that there's always a reduction in signal ie you have the optimum position.
12 You should now be able to go to any satellite,within reason, and pick up channels or do a scan for channels.

Edit. You may find it easier to leave the motor in the due south position and fine tune azimuth by changing the longitude setting in Motorized Settings

First of all, suggestion is to read over the motor installation guides in this section to familiarise yourself of the set up procedure. The plain English versions can be reached via my signature; also attached. A simple rule of thumb, set the motor on Latitude scale 51 and place the dish El slightly so it's facing up. Having input your Long/Lat details into the receiver and sent the dish to a close reference satellite (0.8W), align up on there.
