My Satellite Setup
no satellite yet, posibility dreambox 800 HD.
My Location
Malta
Hi guys,
I'm completely new to the satellite world & im interested in getting a dreambox 800hd.

Over here in malta, they are offering the install but also want euro 10 a month for some reason.

I want to setup up everything myself & even purchase the reciever / satellite from abroad since its cheaper.

Could anyone guide me what i would need to setup the system.
Any help would be great.
 
Sorry if last post was not specific. Can anyone tell me why the installers would charge 15 euro a month for? just asking to see if its a con & can be done by just by downloading data to update cards.

Most likely they are selling you a receiver thats pre setup for Cardharing. Be careful! They have a genuine card and yours and every other box they sell with the extra monthly subs are connected to it.
 
Can I recommend you start reading and spend at least a month doing so, to be prepared for setting up a dish and a dreambox. The dreambox is not for the beginner and requires knowledge of certain basic protocols. You'll need to know the basics of home networking using a router, FTP and telnet. How much work you need to do really depends on what you wish to receive, wether that be FTA or encrypted services.

As tom has mentioned, if the supplier of the Dreambox wants £15 / month, then that's for access to his card server. Usually these suppliers password the box to stop you getting in and checking the server address, this is of course easily fixed.

Just to clear things up, its possible to let the local company install the dreambox, then bypass their system and change the password so i have access to various card servers?

also if i had to change the server... would the service then become free?

Firstly there has been an assumption made which nobody here can confirm is correct or not. The assumption being that the titbits of information you have supplied are referring to card sharing which is illegal in any country and as such runs the risk of being taken down by the authorities, or too many subscribers to the sharing server, slow broadband speeds etc so is not to be relied upon. No the card sharers assuming that is what the system is are unlikely to allow you access in the first place, to let you bypass their system, and enable you to get freeviewing

Sorry change what server?, you would be a client not the server and if you changed the server you attach to you would have to pay to get access to another. I think you should adopt the suggestion above as your concept of this kind of setup appears to be flawed
