Settting up a motorised dish

My Satellite Setup
90cm Fortec Star Dish
1.2mtr Channelmaster Dish
Manhattan Plaza 3300 Receiver
My Location
Neath, South Wales. UK
I wonder if someone can help me. Im trying to set up my motorised dish and have found out that my Latitude is 51.6346 and Longitude is -3.8227
Is Thor at 0.8 west ok as a satellite to set up for me and why is my Longitude a - number when my receiver dont allow me to put a - down.
Not sure if im making sense as im new to all this

Enter your longitude as 3.8ºW. You might have to experiment with the remote to find how to switch between east and west. Maybe pressing page up will do it. Most receivers only allow one decimal place for co-ords.

Your southern most satellite is 4ºW so use that to get your elevation set up correctly.

Enter your coordinates and then tell the box to send the motor to 4ºW. Then move dish up and down to set elevation and swivel the motor around the mast (not the dish around the motor stub) to set correct azimuth.
 
Hi

West is negative, east is positive. 5W would be more suitable, but there's not much in it. If the receiver does not take a negative, it will have W(est) and E(ast) instead.

Use 5W not 4W, a large dish is needed for 4W in the UK.

Robbo is right. 4ºW is pretty weak there.
 
deffo 5w Wales 4 eva mate. unless you got a whopper dish to get 4. i thought you use 1W to set up on.

You use the nearest satellite to due south that gives a reasonable signal, which in London would be 1ºW but in Barry Island 5ºW.
 
Thanks all for your help and advice. Unfortunately i must be doing something wrong as my motor is not picking 5w up at all.
I have given up for the day and manually turned my dish to 19.2e for tonight. For some strange reason i am having problems picking up 5w and i think this motorise set up is too complicated for me which is a big disappointment to me

It's not much different to setting up a fixed dish. If you can manage to find 19ºE you should be able to find 5ºW. Signal level is similar. Explain how you are trying.
 
I have tried looking for 5w with the motor first. I found my true south and set my lon and lat on my receiver then through usals i asked the motor to go to 5w. the motor moved but no signal came back at all.
I then moved the dish manually with the wife watching the tv screen for any signal and i moved my dish around where 5w is by moving dish up and down and left to right but no signal came up
I am probably doing it all wrong im so clueless with the motor, i would love to get it working and i will keep on trying and it helps to have such a great forum with so many people happy to advise
 
Are you using the channel master polar mount? I always use 1w too set up.

Im only up the road from you mate, if you get stuck ill give you a hand if you like?
 
Im not motorising the channelmaster dish but the 90cm dish i have. i am motorising that as i havent got a bracket for the 1.2 mtr to the motor. Any help is appreciated in any capacity, thank you

Sounds like a recipe for divorce!

I've never set one up using a TV picture instead of a meter although others on here seem to manage that way. Once you have entered your co-ords and sent the dish to 5ºW you just need to nudge the dish around a fraction and you will find the satellite. If you are going to use the TV picture you will need a channel tuned in, otherwise what will appear on the screen?
 
lol yes the wife is not happy when i ask for her help with the satellite. I do have a meter but unfortunately its a cheap one which i paid £15 for in maplin and it makes a high pitch noise when it thinks you have hit a satellite signal but its not very reliable unless im using it wrong which is a possibility, lol
 
Hi mate i,ve jst set up my 1mtr motorised dish at my caravan in Pyle and found that the offset for the dish (22 deg vertical) was miles off this caused me a similar problem to you and ended up setting both vertical and horizontal position manually, with diseqc 1.2 i used Thor as my datum sat, i also had probs getting 5 west signal at first and had to jog dish a bit to get it,

reading your probs my initial thought was " your vertical setting is off"

just a thought hope it helps, you have to persevere mate you,ll get it eventually.

Have you used dishpointer to get a fix on what exactly to point the dish at?

OK, what motor have you got? Does it have a latitude or elevation scale (which)? What is it set to? What have you set the dish elevation scale to?
 
The motor i have is called DiSEqC H-H Motor TURNER. On the motor there is Lat one side and Elevation the other. Ive set the lat on motor to 52 and elevation 38
