setup; how to get the "regular" channels (we only get rubbish ones)

Hi all

we're the ones who had snow damage on our previous satellite; the cable connection on the roof had rusted away. We've replaced the receiver on the roof, but not the satellite dish. Also got a new box. Same make as before, Fortex Star.

We've not moved the satellite dish but the new receiver might have moved slightly. We've been searching for new channels and do get some (about 500) but no normal ones such as BBC and ITV (apart from BBC Alba and the news channel). Which satellites should we be searching on (Astra is it?) and is it possible we might have to go on the roof to move things about? Thanks!!
 
Did you skew the new LNB?

yes we (my husband) did skew the LNB and that is what I meant. When we go into the menu on the tv into the satellite list, there's no mention of astra 28.2/eurobird. There are 79 other satellites though, some of them astra (1e, 1f etc). No eurobird to be seen. I'm no expert whatsoever but you guys have always managed to help us out before :-) thanks again
 
it's a FS4000 V2 fortec star satellite dish. We bought the whole package including dish but didn't use the new dish, just the other parts. If we try and move the Lnb, what frequency should we look for?
 
Find a function called Auto Scan (or Blind Scan/Search) or even Network Scan and engage!

(The most likely problem is that the pre-stored Transponder list is out of date: Using one of these scans should put it right)
 
hmmm that's what we've done. Still no luck. Manage to improve the signal on several frequencies of the astra 2A-B-D but not finding regular BBC channels or anything. Not sure what's going on here. Dark now, so can't go back on the roof today. If anyone has any suggestions what we might try from inside, I'm happy to hear it :-) Otherwise we'll try and improve the signal (which is 90% - 74% on some frequencies) tomorrow. Thanks again everyone
 
Ok, another easy indoor task: Find your LNB Settings and ensure you have either Universal, Universal or Universal 9750/10600 selected.

I think we're going to try and move the LNb again tomorrow; we adjusted it earlier today by checking the signal strength on certain frequencies on Astra. It's very strong on some, but not very strong (45%) on others. We're wondering if we've maybe tuned into the wrong frequencies? Could anyone tell me which ones we should focus on? Thank you, I'm sure we'll get there!
 
Facing the dish most lnb's need to be twisted so the cable exit is at about "7 oclock"

HOWEVER some of the odd ones mentioned obove need to be at about "10 oclock" (they were built wrongly & the H & V polarities are reversed in them!)
 
And, as you are missing BBC, check the Strength/Quality (the latter being the key) with the Transponder 10773 H 22000 selected while you are sorting out the skew etc.


Also, I see you had a rusty connection: Did you remedy this by shortening and re-terminating the cable or have you replaced the entire cable run (which would have been the best idea as you've no idea how far moisture has penetrated and capillary action can cause havoc!)?
 
hurray, it worked. We now have bbc, itv, channel 4 etc. We're still missing channel 5 though and I remember that happening before. Any idea why?

We did not replace the whole cable, only took the rusted end off. But tested it first with a 9v battery :-) All seems to work....

Thanks so much for all your help, wouldn't know what we would have done without it.
 
Well done on making good progress ................. odd about Five though, as it is on the same Transponder as BBC2 ie the very same 10773 H I mentioned earlier.

Maybe delete all Channels and re-scan?

Not if you're after BBC1 Scotland and BBC2 Scotland! C5 is, however, on the same as CBBC and BBC Three - do you get these? If not (and probably even if!), a rescan sounds good.
