SG2100A Motor with feeds to two rooms, moving receiver between them

Hi Guys,

Just cannot get my head around this, anyway.

I have a SG2100A Motor with a single LNB now............ I want to run 2 feeds, one to the bedroom and one to the livingroom.

All Im trying to do is if I decide to move the box (Dreambox) from the living room to the bedroom all I have to do is unplug the feed and plug it back in to the bedroom feed.

Now, the motor only has one input so can a switch be put inplace for 2 feeds in/out but only one will be used at one time.

I personally think that running a motor from two recievers is a non starter. My motor is controlled from the dreambox downstairs. If I am watching the dreambox in the bedroom and the dish is in the wrong postion (Same dish quad LNB) then I simply log into the box from my laptop or Iphone and move the dish using the web interface.
 
Why not use a Dual Lnb...one lead goes to your living room, the other to your Bedroom....wherever the Dish is you watch on both location.
 
Another solution is not to run a second feed from the LNB, but instead to fit an A/B switch at the main receiver location, with a cable direct to the second room.

Then when you unplug the Box, just get into the habit of toggling the A/B switch at the same time and you'll effectively have full motor control from the second location.
 
No need for an A/B switch if the receiver has IF loop out, it will do the same thing or it does on several I've set up. The bedroom receiver will also have motor control.
 
Guys Im NOT going to run 2 boxes just need to run 2 feeds.

I'm only going to use one at a time.

Edit: I actually posted a couple of hours ago in response to Post #5 that it seemed you were wanting to use the same receiver in two places, but that Post has disappeared.

Can anybody tell me why? :confused:

A cheap and crude method is to use a 2 way power pass splitter. Make sure its freq range is 5- 2300MHz and both legs pass..

Run a feed from each point to the outputs of the splitter.

Use a small flylead and connect the input of the splitter to the receiver input on your motor. You will have to ensure that its waterproof of course.

This will allow full motor control from either room BUT will reduce signals at both points as the signal is split.

Thanks guys for the ideas, may just get a simple switch but was looking into the splitter outside near the dish to feed the 2 feeds.

No problem - but please excuse my inexplicably twisted underwear :) :D
 
A simple cable run from 'IF out' mentioned in post#5 would be just as neat and saves you chopping into any cable outside.
 
But as he intends only using his one Dreambox ie by physically shifting it from main to secondary location, there isn't going to be an IF Out socket to connect to.

That solution is fine for two receivers (as long as the one not in use is in standby, in order to prevent LNB switching conflicts), but that's not the case here.
