From the stage of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon, hosts David Tennant and Catherine Tate are joined by Benedict Cumberbatch, Judi Dench, Ian McKellen, Dame Helen Mirren, Meera Syal, David Suchet, Rufus Wainwright, Tim Minchin, Gregory Porter, Joseph Fiennes, English National Opera, The Royal Ballet and Akala for a very special evening.

Together they mark the life and work of William Shakespeare on the 400th anniversary of the playwright's death. This unique event takes place in the presence of their Royal Highnesses the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall and celebrates Shakespeare's extraordinary legacy and his enduring influence on all performance art forms - from opera to jazz, dance to musicals.

Pic on BBC 2 HD is disappointing, macro blocking as the dancers move around the red lit floor, as their reflected bodies & also shadows hit the floor its all to much for their shitty variable data rate tech.

Also blacks that are the recesses of the back of the theatre etc refuse to be stable, a slate grey digital block of noise can't give itself peace, constantly "buzzing" about even during that "to be or not to be " performance when the house lights were turned down to nothing almost, BBC's shot was still not at peace within the black background........ Awful

The show was very interesting to watch,
got it in SD since Astra2 propagation went down here,I couldn t get the HD
However the subtitles were pitiful,lagging behind at many times....
since this is Shakespeare text,strange they didn' t prepare the subtitles...
it looked as if a year 5 student was typing the subs live....
has anyone experienced that glitch? or is it my equipment? the following prog had perfect subtitles( QI)
