have suddenly lost all signal quality on my free sat box it's a philex system with a 40cm dish up until a day ago was working fine now no signal ... have checked all connection and bolts / nuts on dish and all are secure ...any help would be appreciated

Welcome,

It might be worth trying a factory reset on the receiver also.

Is it raining hard?

Small Dish = bog all rain margin.

have tried a factory reset and still only have signal strength no quality ...

today is the first time in weeks we have had any rain here .

had been watching it sunday afternoon then sunday night was dead

have been on roof with a sat finder and it is squealing like it did when i first set it up...

Might be the receiver. Can you borrow another receiver or digibox to eliminate a fault with the dish?

I have the same problem here in Normandy with my new Humax freesat box- empty green screen on the tv. it happened before when it was foggy, and today we've had heavy rain. is it likely that there is damp in the LNB connections, or just lack of dish size? The dish has worked perfectly since 2002 with a SKy box.

Green screen tends to be symptomatic of a displaced Scart, HDMI, etc connector and/or of a glitch in the Box.

Reseat all your cables and reboot the Box.

Don't know what's your humax model, but the small receivers having small dishes are not for home use. They're usually been used on the tractor trailers and these things for its drivers to have something to listen or watch while they're on rest or wanna spend nights in their trailer. If you wanna have something for home use, better buying a bigger one with stronger LNB and bigger dish size.

We only need small dishes here to pick up 28E, generally a 43cm minidish is used in most households.

Thanks. The receiver is the Humax Foxsat HDR, and the satellite dish is 63cm. I have tried reconnecting all the cables. The HDMI cable is the freeby that came with the set. Both times the problem has occurred it has been wet or very misty. And later it works for no apparent reason..When I have the problem, on trying to change channel the picture and sound appear for a mini second, then the screen goes completely green.

I notice also that when the set is programmed to record one channel, leaving the other HDD free to record, several BBC channels are unobtainable, so it's not possible to record say BBC1 and BBC2 together. Obviously I have had a double LNB fitted!

Any advice will be gratefully received, as I can hardly call in the local electrical shop for a piece of kit they don't know.

Hmm.

The clue might be in the "wet/misty" - you may have water ingress at the F connection between cable and LNB that is exacerbated in further moist conditions.

If so, you might be able to truncate the cable and reconnect it, but it depends upon the exact type of cable and the extent of any water ingress. Capillary action, once started, is hard to stop.

In that case, I'd better wait until the next time it occurs; if it's wet again, it's the aerial chappy 's responsibility, as he installed the double LNB and cable. The company charged enough!
I would certainly rather that than having to send the receiver back to Amazon.

When you are unable to view a certain channel while recording another this sounds like a single LNB installation.

Can you check both LNB feeds at the satellite end to make sure that they're both supplying a signal. Then, if possible, I'd try a new installation. During this the HDR checks to see how many LNB feeds are available - obviously if it finds only one then there's something wrong. Assuming it finds two then see whether the problem is still there.

Best of luck!

Thanks. the more it goes on the more I'm convinced that its a problem with the double LNB connection. Yesterday again after a bout of very heavy rain there was a spell of empty green screen.

Well, is the Dish easily accessible?

If so, can you re-secure the LNB connections?

OTOH, if this was recently installed, then perhaps whoever did it ought to remedy it under Warranty?

Do you have any pics (Not that they would necessarily show anything untoward in this particular case, but you never know: Hard to see from a pic if a connector is not fully tight! But it might be easy to see if there is ample protection against inclement weather, either through the use of self-amalgamating tape, rubber cable boot or pull-down weather shield on the LNB)?

The following attachment shows how to act why we have signal quality loss on our dishes, although it seems a little strange and unusual but it's beenrecomended by our friend.

2) the second way of lessening decreasing the parasithes are putting a sheet of metal on the way of the parasithes.

hello again,
That is in fact what has happened- the local electrical firm sent the aerial fitter back again-he changed the LNB saying this is the second one they've had giving problems. He thought they could have had a faulty batch; it rattled when he shook it, as if there was water inside. I then had a complete green out again, but after a lot of fiddling with the HTMI lead all was restored. Is it worth buying a more expensive one than the lead supplied by Humax?

Sorry, but I missed this yesterday. Thanks for the feedback :)

Glad you are burning and turning once more.

There's nothing wrong with the quality of the Humax HDMI Lead, but rather the remaining little inconvenience will almost certainly be due to dodgy "handshaking" between the Humax and the TV.

This is chiefly a spec. implementation issue with the TV and is all too common.

My own TV fa**ies about for several seconds when acquiring an HDMI source (I also have a Foxsat) but it gets there in the end!

Rather than fiddling with the lead, try switching the TV to a non HDMI source and then back again - I don't know why, but it does seem to give the handshaking a kick up the proverbial.

I like this expression "handshaking"! Your explanation seems to fit the situation, as it seems to be quite normal now when I switch the remote to HDMI 1, the screen goes green and then the proper sound then the picture arrives. And no more problems with programmes unobtainable, so it must have been the LNB. I wonder how many faulty ones there are.
So I'll help the handshake by selecting a different source and then back to HDMI, like in some of my old cars when you had to select 1st gear before going into reverse!
Thanks again, and thank you to the forum for its help and backup!

Glad to hear you can now drive the interface satisfactorily.

As regards the LNB issue, they are actually remarkably reliable across the range - so the batch yours came from is very much the exception.

Enjoy!
