Hi all, can anyone help a maiden in distress.:-worship

My husband brought a silvercrest satalite dish and receiver from lidil so we could gain access to some channels we cannot get on sky, we live in a tower block and use the conmunal dish for our sky and will be keepinmg the new dish inside.

Upon opening the dish their is something called a coax cable that is not suppiled, my husband is not the tech type so it is left to me to ask.

How do we fix a cable either arial or coax cable to the dish as the intructions are not clear and there does not appear to be a plug thing anywhere. and to we really need the coax cable or can we use a normal white arial.

Please help x x x x
 
The new dish cannot be inside - it needs to be either on a balcony that you can see south eastish from or at the very least behind window that faces the same direction. Behind a window is not ideal as odd reflections can happen which degrade the signals..

Which channels are you wanting to get?
 
You can't use ordinary TV coax. It is best to use some decent satellite cable, like wf100. Try ebay, you will be able to get a length of your choice and screw on F-connectors too.

Though first, you are going to have to figure out where to put the dish and align it to whichever satellite it is that you want.

Normal coax picks up too much interference as it's not properly shielded, fine for VHF and UHF analogue signals, if you don't mind a bit of ghosting or mobile phone interference, but with satellite, it's no good... :)
