bought this last week from lidl to take away in the caravan, problem is im not picking up anything on it. the signal strength never goes beyond 14%, any ideas on what im doing wrong, as i havent a clue.

Most probably dish (if you have one) is not aligned onto a satellite and/or you have a cable connection problem. Assume your using a squawker for a meter. More info required :)

i have connected the cable to the back of the receiver and to the set top box thinking this was the problem a few times. the signal intensity is reading between 80% and 85%. even when this cable is not connected the signal strength still reads 14%. i worked at it for ages pointing the dish every possible way at the caravan site but with no joy. i have no squawker, and no idea what this is. anymore advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

You need to be more methodical, just point the dish in the right direction.

Go to dishpointer, that will give you a rough direction, you want 28E.

You can use your receiver and TV as a meter.

Pick a transponder say 10773H on 28E (see lyngsat for details). Put the dish so it faces roughly the right way, set the elevation so that the dish is roughly vertical, then slowly swing the dish from one side to the other, hoping to get good signal quality.

If you get nothing, change the dish elevation a bit and try again.

Also make sure you have no obstructions above the required elevation angle, dishpointer will tell you this ( 20 to 25 degrees maybe, in NI)
