Single or dual LNB option query

Twin tuner Satellite recievers with the ability to record more than one channel at a time. Do I need a duo LNB like SKY HD requires for recording more than one channel at a time.......Or does a single LNB record two channels from the same satellite family of channels

with a single, you'll only be able to record and view channels on the same transponder.

with a twin you can view and record any channel on the satellite.

if youre looking for a twin, id go for the inverto black ultra, £22 del off ebay :-)

as far as i know you will never be able to record more that one channel at a time.
twin lnb goes to 2 input receiver like sky hd.
it is like 2 receivers build into one box.
so you can watch one channel and recoard another.
or you can watch the same and record the same.
you can not record 2 or 3 channels all at the same time .
just 1 channel at a time you need a 2 output lnb and 2 lines running to both tuners

Sorry Ralph, but Sky+, Freesat Plus and no doubt most other Dual Tuner PVRs do indeed permit watching one Channel and recording two simultaneously.

Now I am confused. Reciever manufacturers Humax iCord for example say in their litrature exactly this.....for PVR recording An in built twin tuner allows you to record up to 4 channels,while watching another......... Surly they could not claim that if it were no true depending on satellite transponder options of course......

Don't be confused - your information is broadly correct.

A twin tuner PVR can record from a maximum of 2 transponders at any one time. Most transponders are multiplexed, which means they carry more than one channel. That means you can record more than one channel from each transponder... but... when you consider there are 60 or so transponders on 28ºE the chance of the 3rd or 4th programs you want to record being on the same transponders as your 1st and 2nd choice is pretty slim.

The attachment shows playing more than two channels live from a twin tuner PVR just to demonstrate it is do-able.
