Sir Patrick moore has died aged 89.

Long-time presenter of BBC's 'The Sky At Night', died peacefully today at his home in Sussex.

I've watched his programme since it started in the 50's, and remember all the major events it broadcast over the years.

A sad loss...he started my interest in astronomy and space in general.....one of a kind....

Well he set a record for programme presenting that'll take some beating. I saw and met him some years ago at a talk in Birkenhead about the edges of the observable universe. Wonderful man.

Nice to see you about Vipersan. One of the best programmes, on the BBC, that seemed to get relegated to the graveyard slot, I'll miss Patrick Moore.

Not only that, many of the last programmes were simply repeats including sections of earlier broadcasts.

It won't be the same without Sir Patrick, but I trust those that were entrusted to run with it, keep the content coming in. The Sky at Night really should have a daytime slot as astronomy isn't restricted to adults that can't sleep.

A radio programme with similar content would also be a worthy addition.

A serendipitous find indeed. Black marks to the BBC for their usual cavalier attitude to these programmes in times past.
