Former Preston and England winger Sir Tom Finney has died at the age of 91.

Finney made more than 400 league appearances for Preston North End between 1946 and 1960 and won 76 caps for England.

He scored 30 goals for England, placing him joint sixth on the all-time list with Alan Shearer and Nat Lofthouse.

Met Tom a number of times in the 60's and 70's as he has a plumbers shop around the corner from my dad's shop in Nelson. My dad used to kick a ball around with him at youth club later when both working used to help him get his plumbers barrow over the bridge on Blackpool Road, Preston where they both grew up together.

You could never wish to meet a nicer gentleman of sport, a far cry from the overpaid 'talent' on show these days
