I will try and explain this in the simpelest way possible,

I live in the UK and i have $ky+, movies and channels etc. My mum lives in spain, visited me and thought the + part was amasing. So i picked up a Sky HD 160GB box (brand new £90 :-)) and was going to send it to her. I now realise that you have to subscribe to be able to record stuff! Money grabbin f+XK*/S! So i have a few options,

1. Can you crack the box so you dont have to pay the £10?
2. Can i buy multiroom, activate it in the uk then send the lot out to spain (no phone line?
3. Is there any way of getting away from the devils £10?

I hope you can help.

Nathan

No, but there is no surcharge for Sky+ now if she already subscribes, just don't activate the HD,

No it won't work with multiroom, as you need the phone connection

She does not subscribe, i dont think anyone does in Spain.

So are you telling me that you need a phone line to enable the live pause and record feature?

Basically i have a Sky HD box and i want her to be able to use all the + features, could i just activate a free to view card in it, then send it?

Thanks for your help! :)

You can activate a FTV card in the box, that's not a problem, but if she wants to use the Sky + features of the box she'll have to pay £10 a month to Sky.
You'll need the phone line for the initial 'callback' to Sky or they won't activate the Sky + features. You can then safely disconnect it and send it to Spain.
There are thousands of people in Spain who subscribe to Sky via addresses in the UK m8.

Thanks pal!

So i suppose after they have activated it wia the phone line and i have sent it to spain, i can cancell it within my 30 days and it will still work! SWEET! (correct me if i am wrong!)

Thanks!

You are wrong, the activation of the function is via the card and governed by the card, cancel it and it won't work any more.

I know it's stupid, but it's how it works. As far as I know, it is the only PVR on which the default setting disables the PVR function.

I, too, have been caught out in this fashion! Now I'll have to put my Sky+ box back on ebay! Is there another digital receiver available that has similar functionality? I want to receive all the FTA (FTV?) stuff and be able to record it as well. Many thanks for all the info on this site, it's brilliant!

A Dreambox will do it. :)
