SKY + box for freesat

I've been given a SKY+ box which I would like to use to receive and record freesat. Is this possible without a card or subscription?
 
Yes to receive, no to record.

The record function is only enabled for subscribers.
 
You can use it for the free channels with no card, and it will work fine for all the channels that are received in your location with your dish size.

To record you will need to pay Sky UK a tenner a month "record tax""
