Hi all,
I have an amstrad sky digi box stuck on stand by. I got up this morning and the picture had stuck so i unplugged it from wall.After plugging back in it would not turn on so i done a forced update but nothing.The box is reponding to select services etc on left hand side button on box but wont turn on, is there anything else i could try as living here would have to get new box match card etc. thanks in advance.

BTW, providing you are not subscribed to any of $ly's premium services then you don't have to pair your card to a replacement box. It's only the premium services whch absolutely have to have the card paired to the Digibox.
 
Obviously difficult to diagnose at a distance but it's usually most commonly the power supply capacitors which have dried up and changed value. This can then take some of the semiconductors down as well.

I kept on trying with the forced update and the box eventually responded and is working again but I suspect something is frazzled inside as there is interferance on the sound. A pulsing low level buzz/hiss on all channels but it is not not present if in the the services / epg guide.

About "pairing the card", our subscription is the family pack so would that work with any receiver or is that classed as a premium service. We only have a small dish so it's not that we use the box for BBC etc.

The family pack will work with any Digibox without having to 'Marry' the box to the card. It is only the sports & Movies Packages that would flag up with a wrong card message.

As expected I had to ditch the old digi box, it just gave up the ghost. I have been able to borrow a panasonic box for now (which had not been used for quite a while. When I set the default transponder in the new installation option it cannot "find" any of the normal default transponder frequencies (I searched this forum for them) though the signal is there if I use "add channnels". As such no EPG, so having to add channels via "other channels" option which is a pain...........

Anybody got any ideas or have I just got another dodgy box do you think?

As always any help would be greatly appreciated.

(PS was going to do a forced update but read in my search for default frequencies that this is a no-no until you have a default transponder freq in the box)
 
So it wont work with either 12207v or 11817v set up as your default transponder in the installers menu?.
 
Okay, got it to accept 11817V as a default. Got some message about reporting the installation to a telephone number (which I have not done) and I get an EPG but only for channels 101-109,,,,,,,will it extend to the whole lot do you think if i leave the box on one of those channels eg Sky 1 (106)

Well,we are on the way!.
3 things to try(I think your box is well out-of-date.)

1. If its going to update,it will do it on any channel-,just leave it plugged in,it could take days
2.Go back to the installers menu and do a "New installation"(but im wondering if you have already tried that judging by your remarks above-ie.have you reset the default transponder AND tried the new install with the same frequency?.

3. Just for now,put some of your favourite channels into the "Other Channels" list. A bit messy,but........:-hny
