Hi Guys

Hope someone can help.
Am looking to get sky sports. Free would be nice but i'll pay the subscription if i have too:)
Would like to have the sat feed straight into my pc so i can record and send over my home network and to my TV in the lounge. What equipment is required ? Would i need a PCI Card with a card slot?
Don't realy want to send from a standard sky box in lounge into office where the server is and back again to the lounge TV.
Am trying to centrelise everything on the server, sound system TV etc. Just want the TV in the lounge ,nothing else.
Is this even possible? Been reading up all afternoon and am just more confused than when i started, so if im asking something obvious please be gentle with me.

A Dreambox will do it, but as far as I know, there is no softcam for the PC cards and of course you will require a subscription card.

Your best bet would be to get a digibox and feed it through a TV card.

Is it not possible to use a ss1 card with the add on ci interface with a dragon cam with the sky card in, using emulation.

Yes it probably is at the moment (Dragon Cams do not work well in all receivers), but if it does work, you still need a Sky digibox to keep the card updated (probably once a month) and also to activate it initially.

As Rolfw said, but if you have room for it, stick a S*y box next to the server (£10 from car boot) and a Hauppauge PVR 150 in the PC (£50 ish). Scart out from S*y into the PVR and control the box with IR blaster. Not as neat as you'd like, but workable

Ok so i think i,ve got this straight. If i get a pvr150 connect the sky box via scart to the card then use a firefly remote that should achive what im after yes?
One question, does the card do the tuning or is this still done through the sky box. Just seeems silly having two tuners in effect.
O and soz one more query, im hopefully looking at using beyondtv with this setup, can this be done? i can see that if the tuning is done throught the card that should work but not sure if its tuned through the sky box how it would interact with the pvr150 and beyondtv software?

The Sky box does the tuning and you're using the line in capability of the card. The PVR150 comes with an IR emitter to control the sky box. You would also be able to use the PVR 150 for terrestrial TV, but obviously only 1 input ata a time. Check out gbpvr.com for a very good PVR app.

Sorry - mistake, just checked.....you'd need to find an IR emitter (and so do I); it's the IR receiver for the remote control that is included. They are available or I've seen plans to make one with just a few components and an old remore control. When i find one I'll let you know

Actualy now i think it won't do as i want this way. Correct me if im wrong but will i only be able to record channels that im watching? not watch one and record another. If i,ve got this right i'll need two tuners? but will i need two sky boxs as well?
man this much more involved than i expected :-HB

It's never straightforward wit S*y! What I have is 2 Nova-T digital terrestrial cards which means I can record 2 Freeview channels simultaneously. I have a PVR 150 which I plan to put in to record from S*y but haven't got round to it yet (and haven't really missed it)

Yes, you will need two Sky boxes and two PC capture cards (or one with two inputs if such a thing exists) if you want to be able to watch one channel while recording another. You will also need two Sky subscriptions, or a mirror subscription :)
