Sky+ - Feed Help

Hey guys, new to the forum so please bare with me.

Having moved into a new flat (from a house) i was worried about the sky+ setup.
I was correct to worry because i only have one feed. This is problem one that i hope to sort out. Problem two is the sky installer came, left the box and im left without, Ch4 - Ch5 + some other channels further up the list.

I have a fb2 key so have been routing around in the cupboards and found this in the hallway. It seems to be an amp for the sat or tv, but when i pull out "plot 11" my services continue in the flat (im flat 11 by the way).

In the picture i have included the point in the flat which seems to have two feeds (one for tv, one for sat) if i was to find this feed and plug it into the amp, would i be able to switch the point and get two sky feeds?

I am renting so its a little hard to do any work required, but im pretty set on trying to work out a way around these problems, i will add there is also another cupboard with the same unit downstairs (we have two floors) but i expect the one pictured is for my flat.

a) what is the box pictured?
b) how can i get the other channels im missing?
c) is it easy to switch for another sky feed?

The missing Channels should appear within a few hours, providing you leave the box On (or in Standby) ...... It sounds as thought the Card Activation signal has not yet been received.
 
This is a terrestrial splitter amplifier, nothing to do with the satellite feed. If you look at the colour of the leads in your flat one is black and one is white so, either the brown lead from the splitter/amplifier has a join somewhere else or your TV feed isn't from that source. Somewhere there's another splitter/amplifier, probably fed by the other brown lead that DOESN'T go from the small silver splitter with the red label to the splitter/amplifier.

Similarly somewhere there's also a load of gubbins (technical term) for your satellite feed. Only when you find that will you know whether there's a possibility of a second satellite feed. Even if there is a spare outlet there's no guarantee that the other cable feed into your flat (for TV) is of suitably high quality for satellite signals. And there's always the possibility that it doesn't even go anywhere near the satellite stuff!

Another thought. How many flats are there? If there are eight or less then it's possible that there's only a single dish with an eight output LNB feeding each flat once. This would mean that there is no gubbins to share the satellite signal around and that you have no chance of an extra feed.

Was the satellite installer an independant or a $ly one? Either way they shouldn't just leave you to sort things out. Get them back to sort out the channels. It's possible that the box and/or card just need an over-the-air update and you may jave the missing channels by now - it sounds very much like the card needed reviving.

I have 90% of channels just missing a few, when i called sky (love digital who provide for our flats) they told me that im missing a band, but its not there problem and to call building maintenance. If i can work out what key i need i will try and get onto the roof to see if there are anymore gubbins.

I will say that the cable is the same brown in the amp as it is on my point, i think the phot has made it look black.

It's interesting that one band is missing. This makes me think that there might be a multiswitch system in use. You need to find out whether anyone else is suffering the same loss. If you have the problem then they should as well.
 
Sky CS are not known for their incisiveness or grasp of the finer technical details - but of course, as PaulR says, if it really is a Band you are missing, then the root cause may be at a Multiswitch.

BUT, I personally would not take what Sky told you as gospel (necessarily): Can you please list the Channels you are missing and we'll take an independent look at them to check for some common feature.
